Going from memory (which ain't so good any more!) I seem to recall my Gregory's manual saying that idle should be around 850RPM.

There is a idle screw on the TB to adjust it, if its too high once totaly adjusted i would suspect you have a air leak. does it run oddly and maybe monorly back fire?

Yeah try the screw on the Throttle body first. Its easy to do and doesnt effect the car at all. I have raised my idle to 1000 when warm in neutral to help get rid of the famous lumpy idle some of these 3.5's have that doesnt seem fixable. It helps a lot but the computer is forever componsating for the changes i make with the screw by lowering the revs by itself until the screw is fully out and i have no more adjustment and the revs are eventually back at 800 or so. What i do then is screw it right back in so the car is nearly stalling and the car componsates back to 800 then i start over. Seems to last about 2 weeks before the car eventually gets the revs back to round 800.
Worth a try anyway.

Can send through a pic of the screw if you want. Its easy.

Yeah, if you could post a pic of that screw that would be great. Mind you, its a bit of a pain having to adjust it all the time, however, having said that, when you have people in the car and the passenger front seat looks like it wants to vibrate itself out the door and run down the road, could be worth it hehe lol

There is usually a sticker under your bonnet that tells you normal idle revs. Pretty sure on the TR (don't know about sexy 3rd gens though) it's on the underside of the front passenger side of the bonnet lid.

Greetings All.

NO!! Do not adjust this. Its like an auto choke. Trust me, mine does it. Its healthy for the car. Normal 'warmed up' RPM is about 750-850 RPM.

Cheers,

He has fluctuating idle at all temps he was explaining.

I wonder if its a case of the air bubles in the coolant around sensors making his engine hunt

Will post a Pic tomorrow if you still want one.

There is nothing at all wrong with adjusting this screw. I have spoken to MANY Mitsubishi mechanics and they all say its fine and feel free to have a play with it. It is just adjusting your idle through the use of air as the base idles arn't adjustable. This is how your Mitsubishi mechanic yould adjust your idle speed during service.

And i know what you mean by the pasanger door taking a walk down the street. My idle was that rough that i had to bring the revs upto 1000 to help get rid of it. Have had the car to so many dealers and also non dealers for outside opinions and all say the engine itself is fine and i'm pretty much going to have to live with it.

Actually, no need for a pic now, I found one in my haynes manual. Was also reading that in order to set the idle speed where you want it, for TH/KH models onwards, you actually need to connect a MUT-II diagnostic tool up to the diagnostic connector under the drivers side dash. This might have something to do with the fact your computer keeps adjusting the idle speed back to the base idle when you only use the screw to adjust the idle. I was thinking of possibly taking it to mitsubishi and asking them to adjust the base idle only. I wonder if they would do that or make up some lame excuse as to why they could'nt do it? Unless someone knows where else to get a MUT-II diagnostic tool from???

Pictures of the idle screw.

Just remove the cap that is over the screw and then adjust. Clockwise is decrease and anti is increase. Start by turning it about 1/4 a turn at a time but dont feel afraid to play with it.
