Hey guys,
I have recently been looking round eBay and found that Mal is selling 380 brake conversion kits. He has them for a good price and was considering getting one. However, I want to know what I am getting myself into if I do buy one of his kits. So I wanted to know the following about the conversion:

1. What parts need to be changed? ie. master cylinder etc?
2. How long does it usually take to do the conversion?
3. Do the rear brakes get changed too?

Thanks

Only front brakes get changed. Takes about 45 minutes each side, excluding bleeding the brakes.
Only the calipers and lines rubber lines (from the brakes to the top of the wheel well)... easy to do. You need a certain spanner for it though (cant remember exactly which one)... someone else will clarify.

Brake pipe spanner.

also known as a flare nut spanner. It gets a lot better grip than an open ender spanner, because if you round off the nut then you can't (easily) do it back up properly.

Thanks guys. Well, it sounds like an easy conversion. So the master cylinder doesn't get changed? Thats good. To members who do have a 380 or 380 brakes on their magnas, is the conversion worth it? Ie. How much better is the braking? I know it should be a bit better due to them being twin piston unlike the magna's single ones.

By FAR,it is easily the best bank for your buck you can do to your Magna, speak to any one who has done it and they will say the same...the increase in braking is fantastic.

I have taken several members for a ride in my car and it is the " breaking " lol braking that blows them away

Haha cool!! Well i will most certainlly consider it now! Just gotta sell my TJ and get my funds up before I do it though. It should be better for towing too. I've noticed when towing, near misses are really close. I've also noticed that I have a bit of a wobble under heavy high speed braking which means my discs are warped. That will be another good excuse to do the conversion too :D . So all you do for the mod is basically remove the old disc, caliper and brake lines and replace them with the new ones? Then of course bleeding the system.

what size wheels do you have now? 15" wheels won't fit over 380 brakes. I don't know for sure if all 16" wheels will fit over them, but ask Mal, he will know. If you change wheel size, be aware of the need to keep it legal re ADRs.

I went to AWD front brakes on a TW ES and found it a big improvement, so the 380 conversion would be even better.

Yeah mate, in the time I've had the car, it's never riden on 15s :P . When my parents had the car, they fitted the 17s. I've got a 15" spare though. Should I get a 16+ spare or if I get a flat on the front, put the spare on the back and put one of the back wheels on the front?

Yeah, it may present itself to be a bit of a pain in the arse though if I do get a flat on the front haha. Bit of stuffing around and all that

I have a 380 steelie right here in the driveway destined for the scrap heap, its got a 380 sized tyre fitted, you'll need to find a smaller diameter tyre, but you can come and steal it.

That'd be great! But I'll need to wait to do the mod b4 I get another spare. Also, are you near Townsville?
