hey, i managed to scab my self a computer fan (power suply one). Any way i got it becuase ive read people sayin there great to take a heat edge off of the amps in summer and i remember back in summer my amp got that hot that if you touched it it burnt ya finger it never once shut off from being hot but i thought i might as well try the fan seeing its not costing me

my questions is it would be fine to use the 8g netagive wire that goes to the amp and the remote wire for it wouldnt it??
i was just planing on screwin the wires from the fan on top of the negitive and the blue remote wire, that way it wasnt on all the time and only on when the cars on acc or on

Thanx

I'm no electronics dude, but I'd run it off the main +ve and -ve that you've run for your amps and use the remote wire to switch a relay. Even though those fans don't draw much current I wouldn't think the remote wire was designed for much of a load.

Im no electronics buff either, but I've also been told that thats the best way to do it, as I also was thinking about mounting a fan to try cool my amp a bit, mine gets quite toasty when I get a bit carried away with the volume knob. Can some one take a look at my attached diagram and let me know if I've got this right, as far as the relay setup goes. And like I said, Im definitely no electronics buff.

Run the fan of the amp's power wire, using a relay to only switch the fan on when the amp's on. Use a SPDT or SPST relay, with pin 85 going to ground, pin 86 going to the amp's remote wire, 30 going to the amp's power wire, then 87 going to the positive wire on the fan, and the fan's negative wire to ground.

nah dude, DON'T run fan directly off the remote power.. they're fused at like 30mA from memory? so even a tiny DC fan would probly blow it! Teks' idea useing a relay which is triggered by remote power on, would be the go. :D

sexdTf... umm sorta.. u were on the right track, but the relay contact should only be in the fan positive wire.. like this...

actually, now that I look at it again, I guess you were right.. I couldn't understand the way u'd drawn the relay...cept that u labled the +ve & remote wires the wrong way round..

Yeah as I said my knowledge of electronics is pretty limited at best, but all I can do is learn. Thanks for the diagram, cleared up a few things I was unsure about. Cheers.

interesting, thanx for the info guys ive got a few relays sitting around. ill think ill run it like wot tek said sounds more logical
thanx

why not wire it to the std fan in the amp? the amp has a huge fcuk off supply.

that second relay diagram was spot on btw well done.

AHHHHH i see where your going :)

why not run a single wire from the accessorys circuit in the dash to the amps fan then?

im very sure they dont use enough current to bother anything behind the dash on the same circuit (eg; fuses or stereos)

if you want to check. measure the current with a multimeter through the fan on a 12v source.

ide do it but im dam lazy and my computer has a bad earth and zaps me if i go near it

thats cos boss amps a cheap **** that need a fan just to run if u notice higher not crap stuff can handle runin with out a fan

but isnt the remote wire that goes to the amp the same?

well thats wot i would have thought
