Gday to all can ya help me with a problem I've got please? I have a 01 verada wagon and it has a problem with the central locking. Does'nt matter if I use the remote or the key the cental locking kind of unlocks/locks continually for a few seconds and then locks again. I have been told its possibly a door actuator but how do I figure out which one and is it hard to change. I bought a 97model advance as a donor for the central locking for 200 bucks but its too good a car and I'm going to keep it as a spare car so I sort of dont wnt to start pulling the advance apart. Has this happened to anyone? any advice would be appreciated thanks.

This does happen to me on the odd occasion, but hasn't been so much of an issue that i've thought about fixing it.

Yup it will be a door actuator, most likely the drivers door.
What happens is that inside the actuator there is a small "paddle" that sweeps from side to side.
At each end of the movement the paddle flips a microswitch.
However the housing is supposed to have a small rubber buffer at each end to act as an end stop for the paddle travel.
One of these buffers has turned to mush or fallen off.
Then the paddle will overtravel and muck up the microswitches.
This is why the central locking will continually cycle on and off.
One way to work this out is to disconnect the drivers door actuator and use the remote to lock and unlock the car.
If all works OK after the disconnection then the problem is on the door acuator that you have just disconnected.
Just get a lock actuator from a wreckers or go get one from Mal.
I was cheap on my 2nd gen, I just took everything apart and glued a bit of rubber in to replace the failed piece. Worked fine after this fix.

Hi guys bit of an update, I tried the disconnecting the drivers actuator but none worked so I assume they all work through that one somehow. I took the one out of the other car I bought and tried it and Yahoo it works now. I bought another one to replace the donor one I used out of the other car and both cars are working nicely. Got to say though mongrel of a job getting it out
Thanks
Steve
