Halfway through installing speakers in my KR I noticed the passenger side mirror wasn't sitting at the same level as the drivers one when looked at from dead front on. I went to see if it was loose and as soon as I grabbed it I heard the wonderful sound of rust. :doubt:
I made this thread to grab some opinions on the easiest way of fixing this, because right now i think if I shut the door too hard the mirror would fall off. There is no metal left. The rust doesn't look like it has spread past the weld, so could a new piece be welded in or am I looking at a new door to fix this.

Yeah, what he said.

Its repairable but by the time your finished a bit of wrecker trawling to get a matched door will be quicker and cheaper. :)

For that if you do want to fix it you would need to get a wire brush into it, I would remove the mirror get the wire brush or wheel (attachment for the drill) onto the bulk of the rust, you may have the scrape some out aswell.

Then apply a rust converter over the whole lot, bog it with a builders bog or a fiber reinforced filler, then paint.

yeah this is the ONLY rust I have found on my car. I'm thinking there must be a seal that lets go that stops the rain getting in under the plastic. Drivers side is fine. Passenger side was being held in by the layer of paint methinks. I will say though, Magna's (or at least mine) seem to hold up to rusting extremely well. Mine has spent the last 4 years outside and we are 50m from the sea. Haven't found any more rust on it. *touches wood* :ninja:

Yep, I have owned 2 second genners and both have that problem. I think the foam in there hoolds water, rather than keeping it out.

I guess that is why the third gen mirrors are attached differently.

Derust, reinforce with fibreglass and resin, maybe cut a new plate if it's really bad, paint over.

do a quick check, remove your tail lights and check for rust in behind where the lights sit, its a common rust spot also, and harder to fix (personal opinion)
