Hi all, I have an 86 Elite. Recently replaced the carbi with a recond unit - After some fiddling it does go heaps better. But unfortunatly i now have a clunky Auto transmission. I have reduced the idle speed and that has helped somewhat. The clunk happens when coming to a stop changing down from second to first. Any suggestions - TPS maybe ?
The car has about 150 k's and i suspect the transmission has been reconditioned at some point.
I have had the fluid flushed and the filter replaced.

cheers

not a big problem

possibles

recheck the oil level when hot and car on level ground
level check oil level
running in park oil should be in the middle

check the wire connecting to the kickdown solinoid

that part the kickdown band is also adjustable

the box stays in

it has one single wire and is held in with a circlip

on the front of the auto box
any good auto repair shop should do that work

mine did the same thing for ages. just take it easy on the box and it will love you for it. i blew mine up by thrashing it too often, partly because i wanted to do the manual conversion anyway. the autos dont like being driven hard!

TPS is out of wack, especially since you've replaced the carby.

If the TPS is slightly out, the gearbox starts slipping and clunking into gears - i remember spending ages trying to get the TPS right.
