Well I just placed an order for half a hide of forest green leather from an upholsterer, valued at $220 so I can re-trim my door pods, and I think I'll sew up a new gear stick boot at the same time. :dancin:
Not that I expect anyone to care yet.. but I'll post pics and whatnot once I'm underway..
This is just the first part of the journey.. I hope in the future to do a totally custom boot for my new ICE, and trim that in same colour (as the leather) vinyl with either a vinyl or carpet floor.. with some perspex and pretty lights for good measure.
I've never done anything like it before but it's going to be fun lol any hints and tips appreciated.

What does every one use to attach the material to the back of the inserts? I used a staple gun, although at times it was tough just getting the staples to go in, did the job but theres gotta be better methods out there.

BRICK,
Thanks for the advice... I know with vinyl it really pays to let it warm up a bit to make it pliable... fortunately in Darwin where I am the temperature is always 30+ so I might not need that hair dryer lol
SexedTF'n,
I was just going to use a glue for the door trims, but I haven't taken them apart to really have a look yet so I might change my mind.

I got a needle and thread and sewed the material together at the back, and thru the existing door trims. You don't have to mess with glue or anything, so whenever you want to take them off, simply cut the thread and its all good. Staple guns are ****ty and dont ever seem to be able to go thru the plastic. Sewing is the best, I was good at it in grade 8.

I didn't wnt to use hot glue, just in case the car got too hot in summer (being dark charcol grey). I used hot glue to fix a neon tube in my boot, and its just come off :( either the heat, or the vibration of the subs

ask the material place wot they recommend you use. i used an upholsters work glue for mine as i had a **** load available to me.
Dont hesitate to ring up car re-trimmers and question them!

The leather turned up today.. it's not the smooth stuff, it's got a texture to it - I'm not sure if that's what I want or not.. still if it looks crap I'll give it away and start again lol
hopefully have some time tomorrow to get started on the doors.
