After buying the Verada last year, I bought Valvoline Engine Armour for its first oil change.
Valvoline is, I think, a good brand. Engine Armour was on special at the time & I thought I'd buy a synthetic blend for the first time.

Now I want to go to a full synthetic, so I have been comparing specifications.
Most companys provide Viscosity at 40 & 100 degrees, HT/HS & other info on their web site.
Where a particular figure is missing, I've found that they'll provide it over the phone or by email.

Valvoline don't show any such information, so I rang the "technical hotline" and was astounded when the technical officer declined to give me any of the above info. The attitude seemed to be "just trust us - we make good oil". The only thing he did tell me (surprisingly) is that Engine Armour is 7 to 20% synthetic (depending on grade) while Durablend is 50%.

They are entitled to keep their specifications secret, but I will be buying a different brand of oil in future.

I think you are taking this too serious. Go down to super cheap, pick up a bottle of Penrite Everyday full synthetic in the correct weight and be done with it. Easy.

Unless you take your Verada to Bathurst to race against the V8 Supercars, it doesn't matter too much about the specs of the oil.

Get something in the right viscosity and a good brand and you'll be alright.

Note: Penrite is good oil.

I used Penrite SIN5 in my Verada after reading what Mal (MadMagna) had recommended. I'm never going back to another brand again. I don't even have to top the oil up in between oil changes.

Penrite is excellent oil. I made a comment the other day about this. Its all just advertising. Won't do any harm but engine armour is a pretty poor name for a pretty average oil. Just put some penrite every day fully synthetic in at your next change. Mobil 1 is pretty good as well

But I enjoy delving deeply into the subject - just as I do when selecting a new set of tyres.

For the record, Penrite's Everday Full Synthetic has been largely if not totally replaced by the new, full synthetic HPR.

The amount of people we have reccomended penrite too on this forum, Especially Madmagna is absolutely crazy haha, although they do deserve it as nobody so far has had anything but good stories about the oil. I think penrite should give AMC members a 10% discount card or something.

Im using Penrite only because is probably the most popular on this forum, I came over from Engine Armour and wouldn't hesitate to go back either, couldn't fault it.
