Could be the battery as stated above, How old is it?
Could also be the immobliser ring around the ignition stalk
The little metal tabs have started to lose contact so you'll need to rebend them
People are quick to jump onto the battery but isnt always the case...
Also check to see if it's the chip inside the key by using a spare key

If the battery is dying the symptoms are.
First time the car will start, rev a bit and then die.
Turn key off and the car can be restarted and will run properly.
In this case, replace the battery.
BTW, how old is the existing battery, if it is 3 years old you are basically running on borrowed time.
I am now on my third battery, First time didn't know what was happening. Did a drive in - drive out at the local Mitsu dealer that had a quick service centre.
Second and third times, just replaced the battery. Every time after the car was ok for just over 3 years. Basically the battery gives up after a bout of hot weather in the third year.

Hey, do you think it might be the battery!?

The beauty of our advice is that we are trying to prevent you getting into a distress purchase of a battery when it totally fails on you on the middle of Woop Woop.
Now gently drive to your local Kmart or reasonable auto shop.
Buy the correct battery for your car, don't be cheap and get a small one, get the correct size.
Drive home, get out the spanners.
Unbolt the hold down bracket,
Unbolt the -Ve lead first - this is the black one.
Unbolt the +ve lead.
Remove old battery.
Make sure that the lead ends are not corroded.
Put new battery in.
Connect the +ve lead first.
Then connect the -Ve lead.
Do a quick start up check.
Then do up the battery hold down clamp.
Done!!
You have now to reset the trip computer and the ECU.
