As per title really, cable has just gone in drivers side window. Wreckers have a fer TJs but they also have a TL - should I grab the TL one ? are they any different (it will be newer than the TJ thats for sure)

Danke! Will go rip the TL one off this week - I guess for any Kiwis around looking for TL parts there is a complete TL in pick a part Lower Hutt (only thing gone so far is one of the headlights, thats where it got smashed) engine etc is good.

Thought I'd revive this thread..
I have a TH wagon and driver side cable is smoked, so can I assume the TL power window regulator will fit my TH?

guys, there's this company on ebay selling just the cables, if your motor is still working. I have just got one of these but haven't fitted it yet. Just an option as any at the wreckers are all getting on !!

Got to work on my window cables today, took me hours and hours, but I've never done one before.Next time will be alot quicker. Had to use my springs off the old cables which weren't in the new kit.Lubed everything up and working like a dream!

Just bought the same kit for the drivers door, 2003 TJ, any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Gregory's workshop manual is devoid of instructions for electrics and suggests the need to remove the window and the regulator, well the Gregory's manual gives instructions for removal of both, and lacking instructions for electric regulator I'm left with trial and error. Next time will be a lot quicker you say, might I ask how? Any replies greatly appreciated. Did you remove the window and reg? if so would you do it that way again. I've had the panel off to diagnose the problem, aka find the rusted snapped cable flailing around in the door void. I've removed the cable, so I can get access easy enough.

Yes I kept the window in and up using small rubber chocks to stop it sliding down. Take out the whole regulator and motor assembly, you have to do this to put the new cables around the motor wheel. Once you get the door trim off you'll need to remove the interior door handle, the arm rest metal bracket and the door speaker and finally the clear plastic rain guard to access all the bolts. Up the top where the 3 bolts connect the regulator assembly to the window glass, after I took these 3 out I took a photo to show me where they align when I put the bolts back in so u don't have to realign the window !
To take out the 3 screws in the motor you'll need a T27H screw driver head, this is to take out the old black wheel and put your new green one in.
Download some pics of magna/verada window regulators off the net or ebay and print them out and have with you when you are doing this as a reference and possibly take some pics of yours as you go to see how the retainers and the motor are mounted ! Those 2 green plastic retainers only go in one way and you can pull out these little allen head screws in them as they only foul on the brackets and aren't on your originals!
Also keep and use the 2 springs off your old cables as they weren't supplied in the new kit !

It's a bit tricky getting the cables in the motor wheel and scewing all down at once, but if I can do it !!!!! You have to make sure the cable end butts are correctly seated in those green retainers and the green wheel because I needed all the slack I could get to have it all taught and get those green retainers into the metal bracket !
Buy yourself some white grease in a spray can preferably and lube up the metal bracket that the sliders run up and down and also under your new motor wheel, although I wiped out the old lube first !
You can PM me if you like with your email and I'll send some pics, the system here won't let me upload pics without using a url and I can give you my mobile number if you need a talk through it or you can send over your whole reg and motor assembly and I 'll have a go !!
Hope this helps a bit !

Cheers

thanks trainman , like you say, next time would be a lot quicker, your comments were very helpful and your very generous offers of help were a good back up if I blew it, they helped give me the confidence to have a go. It's been over a week now since I fixed it and it seems good. Thanks again.
