What do you guys think about the spr-176A Alpine R-type 6.5" component speakers?

Whats theyre sound reproduction like, and is the crossover good stuff or just a few capacitors and coils?

Im went into the shop today but they wernt in the board so I couldnt have a listen. The S-types were pretty good, but my tax return looks like I can go one better :P . I dont want to spend over $500 so the Focals and all those are out of the picture.

type r is good, better than the type s. but for the price you could nearly get the DDDLinears. not a bad speaker, not the ebst. but if your lucky, see if any of the stores have any SPX-177A's left, theytre discontinued, but well worth it!! might be able to pick up a set for about $450

hinestly i would take the money and buy a pair of hertz or diamond audio as i feel that alphine speakers and subs are overrated and over priced

Type x is al;ready out. theyre 177A's etc have just discontinued and are bringing out an ugraded version in the next few weeks. if anyone can still get their hands on a set of 177A's, consider yourself lucky, and they are much much better than the DDDLinears. Linears arn't $800 either.

The Alpine Type-X are supposed to be the top range stuff from Alpine. We have a few Type-X things here but I have not got around to testing them just yet. I'll let you all know what they sounds like as soon as testing is complete. :)

the ddlinear components which were around $500 werent all that good tho. Have heard them compared to the type R's and i can say i actually thought the type R sounded a little better. Of course im sure the more expensive ddlinears are much better but for that price you can get a wide range of speakers which will have better sound. Also am interested to hear how the type-x sounds Fhrx havnt heard any reports at all yet.

Mate ive got a pair of 6 3/4inch MB Quartz in the front of my car and as long as youve got a decent head unit to run them off they will go hard, loud and ***n clear!

I went out and had a listen to the R-types against the DDLinears, I only tried those two because they were the only ones in my price range that Im interested in and can get hold of easily.

The R-types and the DDLinears are completely different speakers altogether. The R-types are a punchy low to high, bit of everything kind of split. They were clear all the way (High pass at 80Hz) with the bass and highs very clear and precise, while running off the HU or 50WRMS amp.

The DDLinears on the other hand are clearly focused on the higher end of the scale, with the bass lacking but the upper mids and highs right up there. These were a much more defined speaker in the high end with the titanium tweeter easily outperforming the silk dome of the R-types. These speakers are (in my opinion anyway) more suited to very vocal music like classical and opera, or a the top 2 in a 4way system. Just my 2c.

BTW the $800 DDLinears were different again.

I chose the R-types because the music I listen too isnt overly vocal and I wanted a bigger mid-range in the front. I decided on the High pass at 80Hz because it didnt seep to stretch the woofer too much and still sounded clear and punchy, Iv got the sub cut off with a low pass at 80 aswell, might have to work on that...

But yeah, R-types sound wikkid, got them for free with a V12 amp. I would have liked to try more but living in Tassie kinda limits Ur selection...
Is running a 50WRMS speaker at 110WRMS ok aslong as the gain is not turned right up and theyre not blareing?
