hi Peoples

TL wagon.

just wondering if the keyless entry and the immobiliser of the magna are the same module?

From what i've read, to use a aftermarket immobiliser you must flash the factory unit. But what about the keyless entry?

Any ideas? is it a seperate unit?

what i'm thinking is installing a proximity keyless entry unit. Although a remote is only a button away etc... It can be handy if you're in a hurry or your hands are full. Some might think it's a wank... but i've been stuck many times.

They are seperate. You have to flash the ecu to swap the immobiliser but the keyless entry can be changed without a reflash.

Just hack it into your central locking wires.
One problem I can see though is that you've got no way of unlocking all doors; unlocking all requires two turns of the key or presses of the button, you'd only ever get one "virtual" turn/press using this system. Unless you hack it into the tailgate lock, which unlocks everything with one turn, in which case you only ever get "all unlocked / all locked", rather than the standard "unlock drivers / unlock all / lock all".

That should be able to be changed by mitsu. I got my Commodore one changed by holden so I assume it is a simple programming change

I'm aware of the implications of doing this, but fumbling for keys with your hands full or unlocking the doors when you have a female friend, only to unlock your door and leaving her outside (although funny, she doesnt like it)

where is the central locking module?

Looks like BEM pin 29 is unlock, 41 is toggling unlock (front/all - drivers door), and 30 is just unlock all (wagon tailgate). Haven't physically tried it yet though. Earthing those pins should result in the desired action.

I have just put an aftermarket alarm in the wife's 2005 TW to rid us of the 2 button push to unlock. The alarm i bought, after researching them, has a 2 stage unlock. What it does is gives 2 pulses to the unlock wire about 1 second apart. Result is it unlocks drivers door first, then other doors within 1 second. There is a wire at the BEM that unlocks ALL the doors with a single pulse BUT it does not turn off the factory immobiliser. The way i have gone has solved all the problems. Love it.

Actually that's something I need to research, whether there is a difference between locking with the key and locking with the remote; specifically, does the remote enable security differently, etc. The obvious difference is the hazards flash, which is useful when locking/unlocking with a remote, as you have a visual reference as to whether it's "heard" you, with aftermarket alarm systems most have an interface for this, if using just a lock/unlock system (like I plan to) then a little more research may or may not come up with a way of getting it to work.
Off to study the circuit diagrams...

TeeJay, how do you mean it doesn't turn off the imobiliser? Maybe it's a sedan thing? 'Cause if I unlock my wagon using the tailgate (which seems to use said pin), I can get in and turn the car on straight away, so I'm not following? Again, maybe I'll see the point when I peruse the circuit diagrams again (for quick reference, this diagram is on page 59 of pdf 54cp3 for tlkl... hmm, maybe it works a little differently on earlier models?)

i thought the immobiliser is part of the key?

if i was to lock myself in the car with the remote... and use my key to start the car... which it will start.
