Hi all,
I'm about to install about $5000 worth of Jl audio speakers, amp and a Kenwood double din touch screen into my new (2008) 380 es series III.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or any links.
Anything at all would be muchly appreciated.

I will be taking photo's and posting my findings.

Thanks all.

-Neil.

You already have the faceplate with the square double din hole, not the inbuilt stacker one?

Yeah, it's like this one - http://www.carsales.com.au/Gallery.aspx?R=11028297&index=12&track=IMAGEVIEWER&h_mid=4415219&f_mid=0&c_mid=4414495&TabId=304736

Thanks.

Yep, grab it from the center at the bottom and carefully pull it towards you and then work your way out to the sides and up the facia and it comes off. The climate control is screwed to the back and unplugs easily as well while you fiddle with the head unit. Aerpro adapters are available.

Pretty hard to make a recommendation for someone who just spent 5k on audio....You obviously must know some things.....

There is a unit called a PAC SWI (http://pac-audio.com/SWI/SWIAppGuide.aspx?appguideid=165&swiModel=Galant&swiYear=2007&swiMake=Mitsubishi&swiProduct=SWI-JACK&swiRadioManu=Kenwood&swiOptions=), really handy if you want to intergrate the steering wheel controls to the new system.

Sound deaden the front doors well, people have a few rattling issues with higher powered speakers....

There was a few issues with the Antenna amplier when you fitted an market H/Unit...Not sure if its been resolved....

Dropping 5k, I'd recommend you mount the tweets in a new position other than burying them in the OEM dash positions, you'll be looking for better staging than what the horizontal dash position offers.

And with bucks you are dropping into the speakers, I would definately invest in a sound processor, for Time alignment, and frequency adjustment...Perhaps look at going active....

Get a better battery.... Look at an Optima yellow top, or a market equivalent....

Its not about how much you spent, its about how well its installed, to get from good sound - to award winning sound.

And $400 JL splits will sound better than $700 JL splits if you can manage to get the plastic speaker protectors out of the way.

Thanks for that TiMi. Great info. Won't be using the adapter though as I've got a PAC swi-jack and there's going to be a bunch of splicing anyway.

Hey Shoot.

Solid advice man. Especially about the battery and tweeter positioning.
I do know a bit about the gear as I am in the industry but haven't really done a full install before.

Thanks again,
Let's see how it goes. Tonight's the night.
