Hi,

I recently bought a 1994 TS Magna SE V6 Auto. I noticed the temperature gauge stays at slightly above the half-way mark. Is this normal? I also noticed some of the fins on the radiator drops off (turn powdery) when I touch it.

I'm planning to change the coolant and I'm not entirely sure how to completely flush the old coolant. Do I have to change the thermostat with every coolant change?

Thank you folks.

if you dont know the car

best to replace the hoses that are soft
radiator cap and the thermostat

flaky fins may need a radiator in the not too distant future

these motors dont like being overheated

next would be the water pump and timing belt to replace

My KS Verada did this, always. Always sat a little above half; never harmed it one bit. If it keeps going up and up its time to take a look at it.

My TS does this aswell. Sits a fraction above half way. No issue for years.

One of my second gens does this too (KS Xi I think). It's barely noticeable though. I'd try changing the cluster first. It's very little work and if it happens on the other cluster then I probably wouldn't worry about it. If you do get worried, just follow what Magna Buff suggested and you shouldn't have a problem :)

Have you checked that the engine fan is kicking in?

One of the fans packed up when I got the car and had it replaced a few days later. Now both are working fine. I'll have the coolant replaced soon and see how it goes.

Thank you ALL for your kind advice. Cheers :)

my 94 magna does that as well. temperature shoot high after two minutes driving and the temperature gauge is always slightly above the half mark. It seems ok to me.
