Has anyone out there had any problems with the power steering on their 380? I can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't 'feel' right especially at low speeds when it feels heavy. It's also apparent that the sound of the power steering motor has become a lot more noticeable over the last few weeks, particularly when turning left.

The fluid level's okay and the tyres are inflated at the right pressure.

Thanks

Is your power steering belt due for a change?

Bumped a kerb and upset the wheel alignment?

Dunno. The car's alawys been serviced by Mitsubishi mechanics according to the book so I'd assume that if it was due for a change they'd have done it (or am I being incredibly naive?) The limit of my mechanical abilty is to walk around the car kicking the tyres to see if they are inflated, so are there any signs that the belt is due for a change? (Apart from the steering not feelng right and being heavy at low speeds. I think I've just answetred my own question.)

Cheers

Not that I can recall. There again, my wife does drive the car from time to time ...

The 380 ahs a RPM sensistive Power steering pump. the was a later release with a speed sensitive pump, I don't know anyone with one tho.
There was an article kickin around with info, if complained long enough Mits would fit it for you, but that about 2007 or so.
As for it getting to feel heavier than you remember, perhaps the tyres are getting on a bit and its been a while since you really taken the time to drive it, taking it in...

Oh, and on the magna, there was some type of load sensitive wire running to the PS pump, if it was disconnected some claimed it reduced PS assistance and added fuel effeciency, (No, don't go into that here FFS), but it might be worth a quick look to see if there is wire hanging there or not...

If belt loose or worn very rapid steering wheel changes at idle - eg rapid parking turns while moving very slowly with no throttle may feel power steering 'stall' - ie loose all boost ??

The wire on both magna and 380 is to tell the ecu that the ps system is loaded up and to increase idle, similar to the air on system

Thanks. I haven't experienced any of those things.

My original query was to see if there may be a known problem with the 380's power steering but judging by the responses that doesn't appear to be the case. I'll mention it to the mechanics when it's serviced next and let them take a look at it.

Thanks for the replies. Greatly appreciated.
