Please ignore the type-o in the titles. My remaining five fingers were shredded last night after swapping exhaust systems.

I swapped my upgraded exhaust system from my TJ over to the TL last night. Not an easy task one handed.

anyway, I took the time to weigh the parts as they came off;

Rear Mufflers
TJ Executive - 11kg (had this in the shed, weighed it for comparison)
TL GTVi - 11kg
Lukey - 8kg

Cat back, or middle section;
TL GTVi - 9.3kg
Modified - 5.5kg (hot dog style resonator in place of center muffler)

Cat converters;
TL Standard - 6.3kg
Aftermarket - 4kg

Y-Pipe;
TL standard - 8.1kg
HM Headers y-pipe - 5.4kg

Headers Rear (no heat shields);
TL standard - 4.5kg
HM Headers - 3.2kg

Headers Front (no heat shields);
TL standard - 4kg
HM Headers - 3kg

Measured these parts on my digital bathroom scales. Each part twice, any differing figures were averaged out. Not the most super accurate method, but enough for a starting figure you can work with.

Total weight reduction in exhaust system upgrade - 14.1kg

14.1kg is a drop in the ocean on a 1600kg car (TL) but its something at least.

how do you find your new system?

The Lukey rear I bought from Supercheap, at the not so cheap price of $240 delivered.

The cat converter and mid section resonator was done by the local exhaust shop.

The headers came from Mitfix and were fitted by the exhaust shop.

The Lukey is about two years old now, having been on my TJ the whole time. Apart from being dirty it was still in great condition.

I actually wanted to keep using the TL's standard mid-section, but the lengths had been changed.

In fact it seemed like the HM headers were about 150mm longer on the TL than on the TJ? I'll have to fab up a bracket I think, just to be safe. Also, the whole system fits better on the TL; closer to the body (without being too close) and it "feels" better.... firmer? Wasn't too difficult to get the parts to go together, the end result is just without as much movement as in the TJ. Newer exhaust hangers probably.

Would REALLY like to change the title on this thread...

Anyway, I'm bringing it back to life with this update, for those of us concerned/curious about the weight of their Magna's.

I've bought an AWD and the first thing I wanted to know was just how much the AWD systems adds to the car... so many different figures all over the web. Its crazy. The AWD system could weight anything from 80kg through to 146kg. Its nuts, so I gave up trying to figure out the weight of the AWD system and focused on determining the weight of the car.

I did some googling - initially to find a weigh bridge or something - but then found a few sites telling me all I needed was four pieces of paper, a level/smooth surface, a tyre pressure gauge and a brain. I had three out of four so I decided to give it a shot.

Seeing as how my AWD isnt here yet (should arrive Friday) I decided to test this theory on my old TJ (FWD) Series one. Its calculated weight, using the "paper+tyre gauge" method is; 1414kg this is a stock standard Exec' with the exhaust system listed above with GTVi 17" alloys, a baby seat and a near empty fuel tank. Seems accurate right?

Link to the site detailing how to calculate your cars weight - here (http://www.rockcastle.org/activities/weighcar/weighcar.html) - but there was a Youtube video talking you through it as well.

Pro-Tips = make sure you have a NICE surface, the sheets of paper are SQUARE to each other and you double check your measurements.
