Thanks guys. Glad you found the vids helpful. Yes I made them myself using Power Director 9.0 software because I HATE one shot boring home videos on U-Tube , especially the how to's where they just walk around with the camera in their hand (usually with a southern American accent). Here's my latest tutorial... and you'll love the product testing!

Wow mate nice videos! I wish I had the knowledge that you have! Maybe I should start on something small and work my way up!

The next tutorial I'm making at present will show very easy ways to make a fibreglass airbox - just the sort of thing for a first project. But once you start with this stuff be wary of all your "mates" who'll try to get you to do their jobs. "No" is a wonderful word, except when Elle McPherson used it to me.... but that's another story!

In this next stage on my continuing offroad buggy build I make a custom bonnet from scratch out of carbon fibre, which could also be made out of fibreglass:

Just watched that video mate! Very impressive. Expandafoam looks really useful. Is that a similar product to the stuff that comes in an aerosol?
Keep up the good work! Cant wait for more magna racer vids!

Bill you're an absolute legend! Your quality of work is impressive and your vids are awesome - very nice of you to share this knowledge! Many would keep it to themselves. You deserve more recognition! Do you mind if I consolidate your vids and post them on other car forums?
I think we should make this thread a sticky in the DIY tutorial section.

These are absolute great videos Bill, please keep it up with skills and knowledge like yours the best thing you can do is pass it on to others. Ive got a front bar repair coming up soon and I know how to glass but I honestly did not think about reinforcing it with kevlar tape and pouring foam, so thanks.
Expandafoam looks really useful. Is that a similar product to the stuff that comes in an aerosol?
Unfortunately not Rush the stuff in the aerosol can is not as strong as this, its also not as fine and doesn't foam up as much, as wont adhere aswell. The pouring foam he was using, its a two part system, being a 2 part system means that it has many many more benefits over a aerosol can of a 1 pack product. IMO I wouldn't be using spray can expandafoam on a car bar, as its not as strong for one. The other reason is pouring foam starts out as a complete liquid and the chemical reaction between the 2 parts causes it to foam up, where as the aerosol pushing the foam out with air, the air bubbles then caused in the aerosol finish will reduce the strength.

Yeah steer clear of the foam in a tube. I tried it once and that was enough. Honestly the foam here was overkill on my part as the woven fibreglass and Kevlar tapes should normally be sufficient. The limitation with foam it is if you crack your bar again you gotta dig it all out to do any subsequent repair. Do-able - but a pain in the arse job. The up side is it's far less likely to crack. I used it on my son's bar as he has a habit of running over race track curbs on a super low car.
Thanks for the encouragement. In a world where most of what you get is criticsm I appreciate it. Wanna post my films elsewhere? Be my guest. I make these vids to show and encourage others to have a go, so that'd be great. Next video in production is how to scuplt, mould and reproduce your own design front bar. No secrets kept!

Do you do workshops or classes? :)
I wish I could fibreglass that good. More practice I guess

Yes Tommo, I have done fibreglassing workshops, but decided I could help more people by producing & posting these tutorials. Are you having some difficulty I could possibly help you with? None of it's rocket science really.

I am able to do it, just not always first time :)
I just need to be more liberal with the liquids I think.

Tommo... Lotsa disposable gloves. Cardboard to protect your floor. Splash it on generously. If you paint gelcoat on too thinly you get a problem called "alligatoring", which leaves a ripply surface in parts of your work. Ask me how I know this! Also make sure you are not brushing on SPRAY gelcoat like I saw in another guy's You Tube instructional yesterday, as that is thinner to go through a gun. I often DO brush on spray gelcoat (sometimes that's all you can buy), but add Q-cells to thicken it up beforehand to mayonnaise consistency. Thanks for the encouragement guys. In the next tutorial I'm making a complete car fibreglass one piece front end.
Lotsa disposable gloves.
Need more disposable gloves than just "lots" :P

Im sure if you wanted to learn you could make a few $$$ each week from several members wanting to buy them. Now obsolete from mitsis.

Should come out good, once you have a template/mold sorting then you've done the hard part.

Ive got a G.E kit ive been thinking of making a mould/plug out of (while its not painted) but don't think the Value if worth the trouble, plus I should prob start on something simple lol.....hhmm like some ones sport wagon spoiler lmao
lol I already have most of most of the kits, a full spare GE kit except maybe 1 flare.. I think all I need is a ralliart rear, vrx front and a few months off in summer. Have a big project this summer though so it will probably have to wait, but might get some of the smaller stuff I've already done moulds for out.

Redline Fibreglass Tutorial No 14 - How to mould a 2 piece car panel like a tailgate, door or bonnet in fibreglass, and then reproduce it in either fibreglass or (as shown) carbon fibre. Although I show vacuum bagging here we actually got a better result with the 2nd one we made just laying the carbon by hand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1BcqqW6d2U&feature=youtu.be
