Hi guys new to the forum here.

I just picked up a 97 magna for my misses.

Had to do a few common things to it today, Changed valve cover/spark plug gaskets and made up a new exhaust pipe at the rear where it had holes blown through.

Now its nice and quite and no oil leaks.

It seems weird to me but when first starting the car hot or cold the revs jump up to around 2000rpm then comes down a tad slow to me. At idle in park or N it sits just over the 1000rpm but when in driver or rev it drops down to its normal 700-800rpm mark. Also in Park or N if i give it a rev kinda feels like revs hang for a sec at around the 1500-2000rpm mark for a sec before it goes back to a little over 1000rpm.

What else is funny is when it park idling at 1100rpm and I turn the AC on the revs drop to a normal again.

The battery has been disconnected and have been reading this can create problems??

Can anyone give me any pointers? Can I clean the idle control valves like in other cars Ive had?

Thanks

Disconnecting the battery can reset the computer so maybe try disconnecting & reconnecting it again. Sometimes the idle can be too low after battery has been reconnected but take it for a good half hour drive or longer and it should all reset back to proper settings. Failing that, might be a small issue somewhere.

I've got same problem.

I've haven't got around to fixing it but suggestions I've been given are:

could be the Idle Speed Controller, sticky/dirty throttle body, dirty MAF

Disconnect battery for 60 seconds.
Reconnect battery, start car.
Allow to idle for 10 mins.
This allows ECU to relearn the idle procedure.

Not sure about rusty's, but mine has continued to be an issue despite battery disconnection and idling

While resetting the ECU often upsets the idle, idling the engine for 10-15 minutes re-establishes the necessary "trim" values (re-establishing high engine speed "trims" and gearbox learned values requires other action).

My understanding is that in-neutral idle revs with A/C off should be roughly the same (after the ECU stabilises the speed adjustment to account for the change in load) as the in-drive idle revs.

Your in-neutral idle seems somewhat high compared to the in-drive idle.

You may wish to research cleaning the idle speed control (ISC) - see this DIY (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87966).

i find that my kj rada is like that to idles a bit high with a/c on aswell but i dunno, i think its normal, i havent had any issues yet...
