a TE with only 58,000 on the clock

woah! i thought i have low mileage with only 96k on the clock!

oh, i like your wheel covers 8)

are they wheel covers, right  :?

but mate your doing very well :D:D should look the part when your finished...

it makes me think tho. should i bring my 'outside, in'??

hermmm.... might actually give it a go :D

hehe thanks guys
Its always good to get support when u do this stuff..

Booya: Yeah, they are wheel covers :)

but the plan is white 17" or 18" rims, but ill make another post when i look into my wheels, etc.

I dont wanna go overboard and make it too cluttered,

But the plan is to install either white guages that glow blue or white guages and replace the lights behind the dash with ultra bright Blue LEDs/lights.

Spray the center console white, leaving the coin holder+cup holder and the tray at the front the standard black.

Spray the head unit surround/aircon control surround white.

If this looks as good as i hope:

The side aircon vents will get a coat, just the surround, but not the diectional blades and the electric window switch panels all round will get a coat, minus the actual switches themselves :)

Yeah i thought about glare, the paint is a matte finish not a gloss so shouldnt be too bad in summer, I never take my sunnies off so it shouldnt be a problem :)

Decided that ill probably invest in a LCD screen in some form or another for my xbox.. be a bit of fun, still need to work out stereo system too!

with the paint i used, i sanded back the peice first, just lightly with very fine sand paper

then sprayed 2 LIGHT coats of primer 15min apart,
let it set for 30 mins.

Sprayed first coat of white,
waited 5 mins for it to set
sprayed 2nd coat
waited 5 mins
etc... repeated about 5 coats till everyangle was covered, im still not 100% happy with it,
but ill do another coat after i spray some of the other interior plastics
:)

if u do decide to do it, make sure prime the plastic, or the shit wont stick :) hehe
and follow instructions if its spraycan etc

all in all an 1.5-2 hours

Long story and i sware it can't be done

But to prove my theory, im going to give it one more shot over the uni break and get some digi cam shots. I have a new idea and a new approach that should have promising results.

the goal is to replace the white glowing instrument cluster with Icy Blue LEDS...

Your allowed to have red on the rear of the vehicle.

I have blue bulbs with my numberplate garnish. They aren't super blue, more light a light blue, very white light. They work very well with the BLUE BLAKIE numberplate.

it says twist socket base.....
so bit of wire cutting and solder, and its all good

but im not sure..

i know it says socket base, but still
it would be easier if it was a wedge

TBuTcher
17-06-2003, 11:26 AM
W VR-X this is the type you would want.... they already have the bases on them that are on the back of the cluster... I think this would work just nicely.
Haydn

WhiteVRX
17-06-2003, 11:29 AM
these are for the centre consol!

i dunno, i'll have to get some anyway and have a play!!!

cause the standard socket is for a wedge, but these have the whole base, with a twist base...

still confused!!

Haydn

WhiteVRX
17-06-2003, 11:53 AM
but those wedge ones are not the miniture size ones

they are normal, like instrument cluster ones!!!!

the ones i put the pic up as are miniture ones??

im right your wrong

i think!

TBuTcher
17-06-2003, 11:55 AM
Ok Im wrong

"Instrument Cluster and Gauge Backlights
Twist-Lock type instrument LED bulbs consist of a T 1 1/2 (#73/74) miniature LED bulb plugged into a twist-lock socket base.
Available with White Blue Green and Red LED
Overall length: 22.7mm Extends into cluster: 15mm"

so there is your miniture bulb.

these things look awesome, i have already done my whole center consol and dash, as well as the cigi lighter surrond, if i had theses part life would have been heaps easeier

I bought 5 mm leds, and then wired an inline resister so that they wouldn't blow, then i fitted the "legs" into the standard wedge bulb holders and glued them in! I definatly have the SAME and disired effect,

It looks awesome! i'll have to get pics, i only have one dodgie pic that is taken on my nokia 7650 and it doesn't have the defination to take a dark shot very well!

if you can- go ahead with it!

Dragging up a real old thread here guys. A couple of the bulbs have blown in my instrument cluster (tachy and Fuel guage).

Just wondering how you all got on with the products from superbrightleds.com??
If you were successful, what products did you use and are you happy?

Hehe, I was just beginning to wonder why this guy has taken sooo long to spray the rest of his interior when it took me only 1.5 days to do all of mine. lol

I'd also like this question answered...seems interesting.

Manual
20-09-2004, 09:55 PM
Behind the dash I never used LED's - I got luminous dials instead. So yeah - the last count I had - the only luck these guys had was mismatched colouring - the LED's didn't have a wide enough band of light to evenly colour the Dash.

and before any one says wide band LEDS - Dave (WhiteVRX) actually bought LOTS and LOTS of different LED's and nothing was successful, I think his interior spent almost as much time out as it did in!!

So my recomendations - either get luminous dials, or stick with factory stock.

I thought someone was talking about putting rubber doms over the bulbs. Like you could buy these rubber covers that slip over the existing bulbs to change their colours. I remembered the ones that light up the cigerette lighter and coin holder have these rubber covers. Autometer sells these covers i think. In all honesty, LEDs sound like a waste of time, and luminous dials cost too much, and rubber covers are cheap and cbf'ed taking apart dash :doubt:
