Hey guys,

I recently bought an Audioline (el-cheapo brand) amp to go in my Verada which would go along side a JL Audio Subwoofer I took out of my old car. I ran a Sony 8 gauge wiring kit alongside the existing wiring loom into the car, under the carpet and into to the boot. I than ran an RCA cable from 1 of 3 RCA outputs on my Pioneer headunit with the power cable into the boot too. I wired the power up to the amp and grounded it to an unpainted metal surface where my power antenna is. The ground is good and with a test light I am getting power as well. Problem is my amp isn't turning on, and the "POWER" light on the amp isn't on either but there is definitely power there... Faulty amp?

Cheers.

What about the remote wire from the head unit?

Did you wire in the amp remote wire from the head unit to the amp?

Rookie error. I haven't run this wire. I think its the solid blue wire isn't it? Because my power antenna is connected to this I am pretty sure. I might run it from the power outlet and put it on a switch so I can turn the amp on and off if I am in the car but without it running. Would this work?

What head unit are you running?

Depending on the Headunit its usually a solid blue, or blue and white one.

Check the model manual online to verify the colour or both the power antenna and rem wire.

Honestly mate, don't switch it, just do it properly.

I used Aeropro wiring harness connectors on the install as I didn't want to cut into the original wiring looms from the car. I installed a Pioneer DEH-9350SD which has a blue wire with white trace for power antennas which according to the Pioneer website I can use for the sub, but can I use this for the antenna (which is currently broken and why is not connected) when its fixed and the amp turn on wire too?

Thanks for all help guys!

Just about all modern head units these days have a seperate switch wire for the amp and antenna.

I can confirm pioneer units don't have a separate amp wire, one of my gripes. Get a length of wire and bridge the power and remote for a moment, see if your amp light turns on. You can do this with the car off if you like. If no power, check pos+neg with multimeter, its common for the fuses to blow in the caps where you cannot see it.

Also on to switches for a moment...

If you wish to add the "antenna down" functionality and have amplifers, you can do the following:

Split the antenna/remote wire, sending one end to a switch, which is then connected to your antenna. Run the other end to your amplifer(s). This will ensure your head unit will turn off your amplifer(s), but also give you the choice of being able to put your antenna down. If you have an Xi antenna with half-height option, you can use a 3 position switch to retain this functionality with an aftermarket headunit.

I shall do this tomorrow! The fuses are working, I checked them today with a test light. I think I will put in a separate switch for the amp and leave the blue with a white trace for the antenna. Thanks for the input!

Yeah it is a Xi with a half height option. Might mount the switch down near the power outlet like I've seen a few other members.

If you put the switch in for the amp, instead of the aerial, the headunit power will always raise the aerial while listening to CD/usb /Ipod....

Sorry, haven't seen the 1/2 height switch...Does it allow you Lower as well as full and Half, or just full and half.

As above, do not switch your amp, switch your antenna. Amp should always be on with the head unit, antenna is what we want an option on.
