Hi, I was wondering what is involved in changing a 4 cylinder to a 6cylinder engine, as mine has seized and 4 cylinders are hard to come by, cheers

I take it you have a 3rd gen. Unless its an imaculate car that you want to keep. I would just sell it and buy a 6 cyl version if thats what you want. You need to change alot of stuff. Don't get me wrong it can be done but a big job . Engine , gearbox ,wiring , ecu , front half of exhaust , drive shafts . thats just off my top of my head.
Even harder if the 4 Cylinder is a Carby one..

A carburettor on a third gen? I'd like to see that! (not)
OP: Basically you need a complete donor car, with everything mechanical in good condition, and know which bits to swap over.
Haha... Good point. I didn't see it was posted in the 3 gen section. Whoops.

Your "whoops" is noted. lol
To OP:
Actually, the 2.4 isn't a bad engine, but it wasn't popular at the time and has a lot of weight to carry around, so any you find at the wreckers are likely to be very roo. . . err, shall we say "tired"?
Best off fixing your current engine, probably cheaper and quicker.

your up for atleast a grand for someone to rebuild you motor. OR you could buy something like this for a little more. newer, v6, reasonably tidy with average kms.....

Cheers for the responses, I was trying to find the cheapest option to get it running again, but it looks like I'm not gonna get it going for any less than $1600, I'm an 2nd year apprentice plumber so I'm now thinking of selling it and getting a vehicle more suited for work

As above, can be done very easily but is not cheap as you need motor, box, mounts, exhaust, power steering system, wiring looms etc etc. I have done a few times but were to immaculate cars. VicRoads is no issue as these cars came with both fitted.
If you end up palming it off I may be interested in it for wrecking
