View Full Version : Tiptronic shifts slip into drive

Hi,
I have a TL VR-X AWD.

A lot of the time when I try to upshift and downshift while driving tiptronic the transmission slips into drive (indicated by the LED on the dash) and then back into tiptronic. For example I may be in 5th on a flat road and may want to shift into 4th but when I pull the gear stick back the dash flashes into drive and then back into tiptronic (and thus leaving me in 5th gear). I have also noticed that with some shifts (especially when i shift up/down and pull the gear stick every so slightly to the right) the transmission stays in drive for a while (even though I'm in tiptronic) and then flicks back to tiptronic after maybe 2-3 seconds.

This does not seem to be reproducable (or from what I've tried). I've tried shifting really lightly/heavily and it both works sometimes and not others. I've thought about having a look at the switches in the shift selector but wondered if anyone might have a better idea about what this could be?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think it would be the microswitch on the selector may have come loose off its mount possibly, or at worst, an
Ecu issue.

If you cannot find anything the matter with the shifter mechanism, take the car to a dealer for a MUT-II test.

Thanks Mike,
I've just pulled out the selector and am going to have a look at it now.

The selector looks fine from what I can see, I have shifted up and down many times and it doesn't 'unswitch' the middle microswitch. So you think it may be the ECU?

Doubt is ECU, just because the switch looks fine either the shifter or the switch will be 99% at fault, I have done a few of these in the past
