Like the title says my SRS light is ON all the time. Well, not ALL the time. It turns off as per normal (six second delay) but a few seconds later turns itself back on.

The car;
2003 TL GTVi
140,000km

I haven't changed/hacked/installed or broken anything on the car apart from an exhaust system and I did that weeks ago. This problem is new as of late this afternoon. No significant events or repairs immediately prior to this issue. The car is completely standard apart from the exhaust system.

What the heck did I break?!

I'm going to go disconnect the battery and hope everything resets itself, but failing that I'm a little lost as to where to start.

Any and all help will be MUCH appreciated.

check wheel sensors

When you say "wheel sensors" you mean the steering wheel right? Because the ABS/wheel sensors aren't listed in the SRS check procedures in the workshop manual.

The part indicated in this picture is very loose... just kind of flops around. Normal or not?

I think thats the end of the clock spring, it lets the wires between the car and steering wheel switches/airbag maintain electrical contact while you turn it.
The wheel sensors I think he means the rings behind the wheels with all the little slots in them, but that would more likely cause something like an ABS/TCL light when driving.

Edit: Don't play with airbags and their wires while the battery is plugged in.

ABS ring's/gears/sensors don't show up in the list f things to check for SRS.

I'm reading the manual... its the clock spring yes, but is it supposed to be so loose? Doesn't seem right you know.

Still trying to figure out how to get the airbag or steering wheel/steering wheel cover out/off.

Going to compare clockspring movement with my TJ.... and its the same. So the "loose" theory is out.

WTF?! Ah man, thats no fun. Thanks anyway though... I'll check the manual for "haa naaa its nothing big its all sorted" and see what that tells me.

Try moving your drivers seat. My wifes TW has the same issue when the seat is in a certain position. Move the seat and off it goes. Drivers seat that is. Must be something to do with the airbag connection for the side impact airbags.

It is a common occurance on TL/TW models, the side airbag connections come loose and trigger the SRS light. Not too sure on the specifics of it, there is a possibility there is a broken wire contained within the insulation.

Okay, maybe I should take a look. Fix it properly.
