hey guys, so i've recently purchased a 2004 TL ES Magna and it's been great!!
only downside is the alarm randomly goes off, so i've checked the hood and am not entirely sure about it as sometimes it will go off and sometimes it won't.
also, sometimes when UNLOCKING the car via remote it will beep twice, i know when the car is being locked and a door is left open it will beep twice, but am unsure as to why it's beeping twice when unlocking...
Alarm system is stock with the car, same with remote, if that helps in any way.
any help or hints would be appreciated guys!

I had my alarm on my TL go off for no reason while my car was unlocked in the garage. Have no real answer as to why it happened, someone suggested that it might be my remote button getting stuck on. So maybe try another remote. People say about the bonet and boot closing sensors but sound like you have looked into that, if not try locking the car and shake the bonet and boot and see if it goes off.

Mal reckons 90% of these problems are caused by a fault in the door actuator, he has them forsale on his website.

And the other times its the bonnet switch. Disconnect the switch and see if you have anymore problems. If you do then we can remove that as a potential problem,

It's weird that most of the alarm issues are with TL's

With the unlocking issue; when you bought the car, did it come with two remotes? If so, have you tired only using each and seeing if it still beeps?
I'm thinking it's probably a fault with the transmitter/receiver (it muddles up the signal instruction), so you press the unlock button, it unlocks the doors, then for some reason it thinks you've pressed the lock button, then sees that a door is open, so then beeps the horn?
So if it does it for both remotes, it's the receiving end with the issue, or if it's for just one it would be the transmitting end.
To those who are good with electronics, does that sound reasonable?
And Is there a common denominator to either the beeping or the random alarm going off?? (hot day, high humidity etc)
As my alarm has once or twice gone off during a scorching day.

There's also one other issue i'd look into: take off the door trim and check if the yellow plastic surround that has a cable coming out if it, on the key barrel behind the handle, is properly fitted and working.
This weekend I finally found out why my car kept unlocking and locking doors. That little piece was broken off by some recent dodgy pdr's who did some work to the door. The yellow surround is connected to your central door locking system and my one was not fitted properly by the pdr who broke it and used duct tape to hold it in place  not happy!

lately the alarm hasn't been going off.
i didn't recieve a second remote so that couldn't be it and i had a look at the cable coming from the door, all works out fine.
I did give the car a thorough shakedown and cleaned the sensors in the doors, bonnets and boot, couldn't really do much for the remote.
seems the problem is solved for now.
on another note, what are some simple yet effective mods for power and/or reliability?

Good to hear. Hopefully this will resolve your issues in the long term.

A thread search. Look up ↑ and then right → for the Search box.
You cannot get power AND reliability. Choose either or. Want reliability? Then just maintain the car well and don't mod. Want power? - well there are a few options:
For power here's a summary - [ranked in terms of cost - low to high]
- Service vehicle with better fluids and oils.
- Don't worry about air-intake unless its a CAI (which still doesn't do much).
- Exhaust system incl. headers/extractors, cat & muffler + piping
- 380 or ralliart cams
- Ralliart/SKR tune from Steve Knight
- Manual conversion
- 380 engine swap
- Forced induction

Hi guys, I too am a new owner and member to the forum! I have just purchased a Verada KL AWD and am having similar problems with my alarm going off randomly at all hours. You have made some helpful suggestions which I will ceratinly look into!

In your case - I'd disconnect or replace the bonnet switch. These are usually pretty dodgy and can be overly sensative. Most "my alarm is going off randomly" problems are because of the bonnet switch. It's located right near the windscreen washer reservoir. Replace with a push button style switch from an electronic retailer or disconnect it completely.
