Hey guys, back again for my TE, im looking at pulling my lower sump and upper sump out of my car to redo the gaskets and hopefully get rid of the last of these oil leaks. Now looking through my manual it raises a question
(well more than one but we'll start with one).

It says to remove the old gasket from the oil pickup tube, however it doesn't say anything about replacing it?

Should I just clean the old gasket and leave it on there? Should i remove it and renew it? If so is it an easy enough item to get a hold of? Can i just use RTV Sealant and let it dry before placing it back on? If so how long?

While im at it, I've never really delt with these part of the magna before, once the lower sump is removed is it easy enough to remove the filter screen and pickup tube?

Thanks in advance.

Oil pickup tube is best left untouched, but if you need to remove it, you definitely need a new gasket. Clean all mating surfaced really well. Don't use any sealant unless the manual specifies it.

Are you sure its the sump gasket leaking, and not the crank seal at the end of the crank?

Check first all sump bolts are tight, they may just be loose causing the leak. Give all of it a good clean, then drive it and try to find where the leak is coming from.

Third Gens do not have sump gaskets, would be rare for one to leak but is not unheard of

Use RTV sealant, you need to remove your engine pupe to get access, at the back there are 2 10mm threads you put a bolt into once all the other bolts are out to "lever" the alloy section off

OK thanks. Well the story was when I first got the car I got a report on what was causing my oil leaks (but not all of them since it require a clean then another inspection), but since i didn't want to fork out all that money for the mecs to fix it, I would do it myself. So far ive done:

Front rocker cover gasket
Rear rocker cover gasket
Oil Pressure Switch
Lower Sump Gasket (old sealant was removed and RTV was applied)

I might give underneath another clean then check for new leaks, because I really hope the crankshaft seal isn't leaking as I probably couldn't do it myself and it would be rather expensive I imagine.
