on one of my recent trips to my engine bay to remove my thermesat, i took out my air filter all the way up to the throttle body(i think thats what its called..). anyway i noticed that just after the MAS senser there is a large plastic box that is connected to the air intake. does anyone know if its part of the MAS sensor? does anyone think that it would give a performance boost if i take it out(less stuff for the air to travel through, quicker it gets to the engine...)????
thoughts people???

Its called an intake resonator. Some like it off, some like it on. There's mixed feelings about it
on the forum. Do a search and see for yourself.

I took mine off, but had problems with the car changing into 3rd gear when i was accelerating hard. And it went away when i put the resonators back on..
Didnt notice a peformance increase or anything different from having them on :doubt:
Other people have done this and found no problems
i pulled mine off........then put them back on................then pulled them off again, they are now in the bin.
you wont really get a power increase, just more induction noise from the front of the car. Be sure to plug the holes up well, gatorade lids fit in there perfect, and use silicon or somethin similar to be sure they are sealed up.

You took out your thermostat?
Hows the fuel bill ?
The engine needs to get to operating temperture so that the ECU turns off cold start functions. You'll need a thermostat to do this.

What Shagin said if you haven't replaced it.
This has got to be one of the worst things you can do to your engine.

i did replace the thermastat..... the old one had to come out, its not normal when its a nice brown rusted colour.....
when i first got my car there was no coolant, just regualr (rusty) water, and the thermostat was seized open. God knows how long it was like that for...

just means its colder for longer thats all, and will sit mildly cooler when driving. i have a earlier opening thermostat because the radiator i used to have wasn't as efficient and would get a tad warm without it

Try taking them off, and fully sealing the holes. See if you like it, if not, put them back. It's no big hassle to do...so just try it.
