some people here say that a lukey muffler gives better power and economy than stock, but what about noise? I'm looking for no louder than stock. Has anyone done a direct change from stock to lukey? and do they fir on wagons?

thanks

I think I might have commented on this in another thread yesterday... the Lukey LR2779 is the VRX / Sports equivalent. It is a large muffler, and comparable in size to the stock (non-sports)one. However, being a high flow design it is going to be louder but not significantly, and you will notice it is a little louder when you accelerate. Put another way, I doubt you will get too many complaints from your passengers or other drivers giving you dirty looks! You will notice some droning around 2,000-2,400 rpm with the 4spd auto. This muffler is not bolt on, so you will be able to get it cut & welded onto your existing piping by an exhaust place if you want... FYI the Berklee BSO655 is a very similar muffler, and may be a cheaper option depending on where you source it from.

It will definitely be louder than stock, but not offensively so. Like 380Mitsu said, the Lukey is equivalent to the Sports/VR-X models, so it's not going to be annoyingly loud.

Might be worth hitting up a SA member to see if they'd take you for a strap to see what you thought of the noise.

hi guys, thank you; do you have any thoughts on the extent of power and/or fuel economy gain? I realize that if you use the extra power, you probably don't get much of an economy gain.

Power is generally estimated to be an extra 5-7kw give or take. Driving style remaining constant, I noticed about a 0.5L improvement in fuel economy going from standard to sports muffler.

Where in SA are you located cooperplace?

I am down south, but if ya wanted to meet up somewhere id be more than happy to take you for a spin round the block with mine.

I have a TJ sports exhaust off of the sports model. I also have a lukey centre resonator with 2 1/4 piping from the cat. Mine has a little drown as 380mitsu said at around 2000rpm but its not as bad as some that ive herd.

The muffler thats on mine is actually the same muffler the TJ sportswagons came out with, just ive got the sedan equivalent.

I thought so, but couldn't say definitely. Means you can't really get them off ebay etc., as they all seem to be sedan.

Hmm, just looked at the service manual (shoulda been first stop I guess), quite definitely different mufflers. Maybe the centre exhaust is the same, everything else looks different (goes over the rear axle I guess?)

HI Rushy,

Thanks for your offer, but I've decided to leave it as it is. I would like to be definitely as quiet as stock or quieter., and the messages I'm getting is that it will be a bit louder,

cheers,

Peter
