Hi guys,
just have a question regarding my Ke Verada.
I've just had oil, oil filter, plugs, leads, trans flushed done on my car and i'm having extremely bad economy.
Don't have a trip computer, but i'm getting about 250-300 kms per 60ish litres.
The air filter is a little dirty, but mechanic said it didn't need changing.
half of my driving is through the adelaide hills, i wouldn't say i'm a lead foot, just the casual overtake and stop start traffic in town.
thanks.
Try replacing the O2 sensor.... A few people have changed it with good results... :)

Make sure your O2 sensor is in properly first. Mine was not connected and just hanging and it had a bit of trouble starting some days and was getting 17L's per 100 kms. We just put it back in and all fine and down to 11L's per 100 kms which is good for me as I am heavy footed. Ebay sells them for under $40 new if you require a new one.

You get what you pay for, you pay $40 for some bit of rubbish and that is what you will end up, some half complete bit you then need to solder wires etc onto
I use the NTK, they are plug and play, genuine items and approx $130.00

this sounds like my car.. very poor fuel economy and if i sit and let it idle i get a very strong fuel smell coming into the cabin (no hole in exhaust cause i got a straight through rear pipe done the other day, unless the exhaust shop was a hopeless bunch)
My opinion only, but $130 for a new O2 sensor that "may" be the cause of poor fuel consumption will buy almost 90 litres of petrol - so think before you buy! (I would not be tempted to fit an Ebay cheapie either) The type of driving you do - up and down Adelaide hills, occassional overtaking and stop/start driving are the receipe for poor fuel economy.

02 sensor should really be a service item anyway on old cars, that $130 is going to be wasted anyway if he's on 20L/100 as stated, so the sooner the money is spent the better.

Just because an item is bought off ebay doesnt make it an "ebay cheapie". Its not that hard to click on the link and do some research. They are quite a good o2 sensor. I cant say they are the best out there as there may be better but they are great value for money from what I have researched.

I bought a pair of these a few months ago:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150678254176
Less than $40 each delivered.
Replaced my oldest and only remaining original O2 sensor (four O2 sensors on a 380) with one of them, and not a problem.
Not 'plug & play', you need to cut & join the four wires, but pretty easy to fit. If I can do it anyone can!
So as TJ_3.5 says, they are great value for money.
KJ.
AMC group buy to save on shipping if they combine to aus?
Are all the 3rd gen o2 sensor wires/plugs the same?

How can you claim from a few pages of text that they are any good, I am astounded at this claim
Have you actually purhcased one, then had the labour paid for installing this, then understood that when you get something like an O2 sensor which is extremely sensitive and "patch" the old plug into this item to make it connect that you will not get the results from something factory made
Sure, they may be "ok" but for how long and more to the point, will they accept any interferance which can happen with the patch job needed
Oh and before people start the good old "he is just trying to sell his crap" line, you can get them from Mits for the same price as from me so you have the choice where to purchase them :)

The one I put up is a straight plug in for a start. So why dont you actually check the link. I have asked people including exhaust shops who stock this brand and they both hold it in high regard.

LoL I did check the link from Treeaddyman, his one is a cut and shut one
Look, if you are happy with your purhcase that is great, I personally do not use cheap ones as from previous experience the NTK ones proveded by Mits have been excellent and have not given me any issues. When I am happy with a product I continue to use it. I see no reason to save a few $$ and end up with a slow acting sensor (this I have seen so many times with many aftermarket ones when hooked upto the MUTTII)

Think of it this way. If you buy the ~$130 part from Madmagna, or Mits, it will essentially pay for itself by two re-fuels. And save you money after that.
But I reccomend troubleshooting the issue first, checking the faulty bit, testing etc.

I just check the same link and I can say that the Standard Motor Products that make the sensor referred to are good quality. I have had a set of SMP coil packs on my XR8 which I ordered from www.rockauto.com for about 2 years with no problems. From memory they were about $140 delivered to the door.

In response to your original problem, maybe a quick check if the airflow meter is working. Unplug it and see if that makes a difference to the way it drives. If it doesn't then you should have it tested as it may be faulty.
This is only a quick check that i have seen a few mechanics use over the years to isolate problems.

I had the same problem with my KE too. I was getting 16-17L/100 had a service done with oxy sensor and spark plugs done it came down to 14, couple months later I put a sports muffler in and high flow cat, I was getting 12.5 to 13L to 100. Think that is as good as it gets for a 15 year old car

Thats is fair enough. Everyone has there opinion. I dont understand why on my previous post the link didnt work hence why I said check my link as the one I refer to as a good one is the one below.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-Magna-Pajero-Verada-PROTON-Persona-Satria-Waja-Wira-Oxygen-Sensor-O2-/120839581601?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c2299afa1
That is the one I will be getting as this is the one I know places stock and I have been told it is of very good quality. I cant say it is as good as your ones or genuines but at the same time I can not say its worse. Simply comes down to the quote, 'stock is not always best'.

I am picking up the same one of these next week for my daughters TH as I now live in Melbourne, her fuel consumption has gone from 11/12 to 16. I have done the plugs and air filter, so I wil replace the sensor next weekend and will post the results in due course.

thanks for all the replies!
does someone have a photo or something to show where the oxygen sensor is?
i'm a massive noob when it comes to my verada! haha
On top of the exhaust, underneath your car around where the gear shifter would be.

is it possible that there is nothing there?
would my car still be running if there isn't an oxygen sensor
there is a little open spot but nothing filling it.
Is there a hole all the way through the thread, or is it the gap in the heat shield with a wire coming out the top? Pic?

If you have a ke verada with factory headers and cat you would definitely have one. Just need to get under and look better. In front of the cat is a short pipe. Unscrew the heat shield off and then look on top and you will see it. You will have to get right under to see it too. Car ramps are easy, or just go to an exhaust shop.

No sheilds need to be removed, the sensor sticks out of the pipe some 3" just forward of the cat, look up from the drivers side

okay so had the car up on ramps today, and found it, looked fairly decent.
then found where it plugs into behind passenger kick plate.
i disconnected the plug and went for a drive around the block, didn't make a difference what so ever.
i might need to add, the heater core leaked, could coolant have leaked into the plug and killed the connection?
thanks for all your help guys.
