So this week i took Bagheera (My magna) Into the repair shop in Katoomba and found out that the rear end that is from a verada (as pointed out by Red Valdez and Magna_VRX_turbo) is actually covering up a hideous rear end surgery. This was performed a while ago before the previous owner apparently. However. It is supposedly going to cost less then $600 to fix... Maybe half that depending on where the water that is leaking in is coming from.
Basically whats your advice here? Should i go ahead with the repairs? Also i know its to late now obviously. And i love my car, so i'm not getting rid of it. But should i get a REVs check to make doubly sure theres nothing else wrong? Or is it possible that this could have been an off the books accident/repair?

It may have been a repairable write off..
I would try and get it all looked at by the smash repairer..

I'd spend the money on getting it fixed sounds like a half decent price but what I'd involved in getting it repaired?

If was written off as a repairable write off then will be on the revs check although revs no longer exists, is now called PPSR https://transact.ppsr.gov.au/ppsr/Home
If was reapaired by an insurance company OR by the owner, then will be no record of it
Seems like the damage can not be that bad if the body works only wants $600 for the reapair, if the rest of the car is ok then I can see no reason why you should not repair the car

A REVS check will only tell you if the vehicle was previously a write off (economic or statutory). It doesn't tell you where the damage occurred, what was needed to fix it, or anything like that. In other words, it's pretty useless for what you want.
If it was in a prang a few years ago - when Magnas were actually worth money lol - a reasonable hit wouldn't cause the car to be written off anyway. So it could have been in a pretty serious prang, with no record of it occurring.
If you're really concerned, get the panel beater to go over it with a fine tooth comb when they're looking at it.

What is the "hideous rear end surgery"? Bad welding, body work reshaped with plaster of paris, etc? lol
Got any photos?
Some of us here may be able to tell you if it's OK as is, or dangerous.

Should be fine mate, it obviously drives ok, fix it and don't let it play on your mind.
For the OP - more comprehensive than a REVS check

So the damage is just some dodgy welding on the rear end. Water has been leaking in and as some can vouch, the weather in Katoomba/Leura hasn't been favourable. Infact today was sunny and now its pouring rain again. The Body repair place (The Repair Wizard - Katoomba) has looked at it and have a few ideas. So i'll stockpile some cash and get it repaired. Expensive sound gear in the back is precious and i don't want it recked.
