Anyone got a spare? lol
Registered the Lancer this morning, been sitting for a few months. It will not idle, did ok a few weeks ago.
Not to worry, probably the ISC. Got the multimeter out, measured the coils, sure enough, one is open circuit.
Not to worry (again) as I have spares. Except the Magna design is different to the Lancer, so my Magna spare ISCs are no good. The Lancer has water flowing through the body of the ISC.
The closest I can find on Rockauto.com is a Mirage one, $255 plus postage!

So, any ideas where I can spend less? lol

Upped the idle with the air flow screw. Seems to be stable, 800-1,000 rpm hot, no load. At least it won't stall and leave me without power steering at the wrong moment. lol

Still getting a higher idle with cold engine, and increased hot idle when turning on the air con. A Magna with a busted ISC doesn't do this, so its set up differently on the Lancer - must look into this further.

the lancer cold idle speed is controlled by a bi metallic strip inside the TB , which has the coolant running over it. the coolant circuit can be bypassed short term while you get another one.

Idle is quite well behaved at the moment, if you didn't know the ISC was not working you wouldn't be able to tell from the way the car starts up and idles under different conditions. Unlike a Magna with busted ISC.
So it's staying as is, saving me money. lol

Talking about saving money . . . . been driving this little red Lancer for a few weeks now. Fuel consumption around town is 11 km/L. Puts the TS 3.0L Magna to shame, but then the TS motor is almost twice the size and it is manual while the Magna is auto.

I'm starting to like this thing, but alas its "communal property" and will be passed on to grand daughter number 2 as soon as she gets her license. Ho hum - it will be back to the TS wagon. Gonna miss the little red rocket!
