Afternoon all,

I have just purchased a 12/01 TJ Advance - my first foray into Mitsubishi territory :)
I noticed that while it had two keys, it had no remotes. Did all TJs come with remotes? If so, should I choose to buy one, is the programming instructions as below? (The below was for a KH, but I would assume its the same, or similar procedure?):

1- Enter programming mode by unlocking the vehicle, turn the ignition switch to the "ON" then "OFF" positions 3 times within 5 seconds, finishing in the "ON' position. The vehicle is now in programming mode.
2- Within 5 seconds operate the button on the remote. The turn signal lights will flash to indicate that the remote has been programmed.
3-Turn ignition off.
4-Test remotes
5-If all else fails repeat steps 1-4

Courtesy of the search function :hmm:

If I buy two remotes, how do you go about coding both? Do the above twice, or operate the button on both remotes in step two within 5 seconds?

Just hit green on one, then on the other. You have 5 seconds each time. And the indicators will flash.

Remotes have probably been lost. I just bought one from my Mitsu dealer for $90 (ish) but they are up on ebay as well if you choose to go that way. As BlackFX said, after you do the steps above just press the green button on one and then straight away on the 2nd and should be all set.

Not many TJ owners would have an original, working remote. They wear out, stuff up, or go unreliable after all these years. I've got one in bits on my desk in front of me. lol

Be thankful you got the car with two keys though, much more expensive to organise a second key than it is to buy a remote off eBay. I haven't bothered, I can live without one.

I was very lucky to get two keys, two remotes, and the valet key with its original slip cover with my GTV! :D

Winner! Very, very unusual! Obviously a very organised previous owner who appreciated the car!

I wouldn't go so far as to say he appreciated the car more than usual, or he wouldn't have repaired the scratches on the hood with white out heh! I didn't notice that for a while after I bought it.
But it came with the service manual, warranty book, Mitsubishi slip thingy, GPS manual and all the keys so despite the somewhat poor condition paint (I get the impression he wasn't much of a car wash guy) and the worn out Nardi wheel, he at least kept everything it came with.
