Does anyone know anything about this item 'plug and play' kit being sold on ebay? They have more than one for sale. I have sent them a message asking what brand the kit is.
I am interested but cautious given the seller says they will not post a photo of the actual cable!
Why say that unless you have something to hide?

If a buyer isn't prepared to make their sale as attractive to the seller as is possible, there is generally something dodgy involved. In this instance, I would suggest that maybe the item he is selling is so simple to produce that showing a photo of it would limit his potential for sales.
He has made it quite clear what radio it will suit, have to give him credit for that, his attitude towards the sale leaves something to be desired, how much do you fancy risking your $55?? :)

The seller says the cable is 'no brand' so that suggests a home made job

Or could it be that it's behind the unit therefore his not able to take a photo?

So what is the risk, he seems to have good feedback, you pay with PayPal and if the item is not as described then you get your money back, if it is and it works then all is good, win win

Mad is correct, use Pitty Pal and if not up to the job as listed Pitty Pal will deduct funds from seller account to refund you.

Response from seller claims that Car system will control phone with this cable - so I guess its worth a paypal punt

I thought bugger it, if it is crap I will dispute it, if it is good win win lol
I will take a couple of pics when it arrives, if looks to be locally made I will see if I can work out how and let you all know, if there is a local option will be great for anyone with a 380 because IMO aside from the lack of input the 380 integrated head unit is quite good for a stock unit, add the rockford to that and it sounds as good as anything is needed for a car

Nice, can you test it with an Iphone 4 or 4S, or newer Ipod? The regular cable charges at 12V, which changed in 08/09 and all the newer iDevices charge at 5v, so my Iphone doesn't charge.

Added to this, the cable angle going into the head unit hits the bloody main plug lol, will also contact the seller

Not good so far. I have the Bluetooth mod installed too but that shouldn't affect this as it only works when connected via bluetooth.

Contacted the seller and all I got was plug it in and it should work, looks like he may be getting a heap of negative feedback from people and cancelled cases lol
Another thing I noticed is the right angle the plug comes out on hits straight into the power plug on the back of the unit.....

A bit abrupt considering I asked him:
Dear barbbs1978,
Thanks for quick post etc - cable arrived yesterday
I fitted this morning but get no response at all from iPhone 4 - How do youselect the phone as opposed to CD or FM1, FM2 or AM?
How do you get it to charge the phone?
My daughter has newer Mitsubishi Outlander with phone connection and menuappears when CD button is pressed twice - but doesn't work with your cable

Yeah, pressing CD twice should make it look at the iPhone, which accesses playlists.

Mine hasn't arrived yet. Is there any point in taking out the head unit if no-one else can get it to work? I guess not.......................
Hopefully something simple that no one has tried yet.
Saw your feedback Mal - any response from the seller?

Patch cable will be here on Monday lol
I got a call from the seller of the cable, he recons he used gaffa tape to force the plug in, I tried on another 380 SX here and still no go, he has agreed to a refund but it did take feedback to get him to respond after the first message I left for him, hopefully all on AMC will see this thread and avoid this unit, was worth a try and at the end of the day has cost me $5 for the return postage.....

Seller called me and mentioned gaffa tape and other people complaining also
Said his original came from US but was designed for Kenwood HU. Cables he sold here were sourced in Asia - maybe faulty.
Tried my cable on my spare head unit (from my original S1 VRX, removed for sat nav) still no joy :)
Can find simlar looking items on ebay if search Kenwood KCA-iP500

I haven't, but don't know if this menu option is only activated when a valid 13 Pin DIN connection is present??

Got the 3 different outlandish cables today
One is plug into the MMCS port, tried and again does not work, mentions to hold cd button for 2 seconds, did this and no go
The other 2 have 3 pins that you pin into the factory plug, unfortunately one has no mention of Galant and is a different plug, the second one mentioned Galant so I got all excited until I noticed that the Galant head unit has a 20 pin plug where as ours has a 14 pin plug damn..... Both of these do mention that there will be wires in those pin locations already that need to be removed and insulated, only issue is I dont know which 3 these are due to ours having a differnt plug config by the looks of it.
Checking on fleabay in USA, the same cable is avail there, I am beginning to think that ours does not have the AUX feature in the head unit as some of the adverts indicate that you can still activate the AUX mode simply by pushing the CD button and they advise to check that this works before you purchase.

Somewhere I have seen comment that ours shows up as CD1 or CD2 when a valid device is connected via the 13pin DIN plug
Manual says 2 sec pushed toggles between standard CD and MP3 when you use a CD with both formats on same disk
I have pinout diagrams and service manual for our 6 CD unit, but don't know which one is in US Galant
See http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43809 post 90
If any one knows can get a manual for about $10 on line, but need to know exact unit details
Pinout comparison may then allow us to plug to correct place??

By MMCS do you mean round 13 pin DIN?
BTW do you have any multi stacker CD units lying around that you could try to see if you get CD1 and CD2 response - given this thread seemed to start/include with mention of a Kenwoood cable perhaps one of that brand??
I can send you the complete pdf radio manual if useful to you - just pm me an email addy

The MMCS is the 13pin plug, the cables, well 2 of them, are designed to go into the main power / speaker plug, 3 pins get removed and replaced with these. This is how it is done on the Outlandish etc.
I have several of the 6 CD stackers here, none of them have responded at all to pushing and holding the cd button, I may be holding my mouth the wrong way lol
I have a couple of the books here supplied by Mits with these cars new, odd thing is on the front cover it shows our unit but inside I can not find a mention of the unit, has several others there but not the stacker unit lol

Not very/clearly well written on my part - I meant do you have any after market additional stacker units to plug into the 380 stacker to see if then it recognises itself as CD1 and the add on stacker as CD2?
Looking at the pinouts for the 14 pin main plug I can't see which could be used for input; viz
1 RHF Speaker (+)
2 LHF Speaker (+)
3 Illumination (+)
4 Antenna (+)
5 LHR Speaker (+)
6 RHR Speaker (+)
7 RHF Speaker (-)
8 LHF Speaker (-)
9 Illumination (-)
10 Battery (+)
11 Accessory (+)
12 --
13 LHR Speaker (-)
14 RHR Speaker (-)
Do the Outlander Stackers have more than 14 pins? - if so maybe other inputs have been provided
The instructions for the 380 6 CD start on page 5-34 of the owners book with the comments re 2 sec push on top of 5-42 (to swap from CD digital audio to mp3 when both formats are recorded on same disk)
My owners book has picture of honey grill on fron cover - are we talking same book)
Madmagna
28-02-2012, 09:14 AM
In relation to the book I was talking about a specific audio manual that came with some of the 380's etc, not the actual owners manual
Some have 14 pins, some 18 and some 20 by the looks of things, if I get a few minutes spare I will scan the instructions which come with each of the 3 different cables.
