Hi all,
Am enjoying this forum immensely, lots of great info and great people.

This might be a stupid question, but I have had two Magna prior to my 380 and have had the clear coat fail on both.
What is the best polish to use, that will not kill the clear coat to quickly?
Currently I am using a wash & Wax combination that is not lasting very long at all.

Car is going nicely since having all the previous work done.
All up $1158.00 as the rear window parts had freight added. The joys of a rural life.

Apparently the dew that falls evening/ night when exposed to the sun will strip clear coat over time. So give it a quick rinse or wipe down in the morning.

A good polish will not 'kill' a clear coat - in fact, it'll do the opposite.

I'm a big fan of Poorboys products (http://www.waxit.com.au/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&manufacturer_id=21&Itemid=1). They're excellent value, incredibly easy to use, and look great. I would use either the Black Hole or White Diamond glaze (the former for dark coloured cars, the latter for lighter cars) to polish the car, then topped with EX-P sealant (a synthetic wax, if you will).

I would be inclined to polish + wax every 6 months, with a top up wax about half way in between.

You'd be much better to leave the dew there than rinse it off with tap water... if you really want to get rid of it, I'd go over it with a quick detailer and a good, clean microfibre cloth.

I never polish mine, I just keep it ridiculously clean during the week and a coat of wax once a fortnight, looks amazing. Meguires tech wax 2.0 is my preference.

If you want a long-lasting effect, steer clear of off-the-shelf products. As said time and again, these contain lots of additives that 'mask' imperfections in the paint rather than correct and protect.

For budget as red said above, poorboys is good stuff. I am also still continually impressed by Dodo Juice. I have also tried a Duragloss post-wash wax spray and that has given excellent and long-lasting results.

Check out this awesome little wax kit. Comes with Lime Prime too which is a pre-wax cleaner, kind of like a subtle polish - http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/dodo_juice/two_birds_one_shine/banana_armour

Here is the Duragloss Aquawax which makes a quick wax a doddle - http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/product/duragloss/aquawax

I just bought that wax kit you posted Dave! It arrived the other day. Am looking forward to giving my car a good detail and seeing how it comes up.

Big call man. Some of the Menzerna prestige range and Zaino is up there with the best products in the world for a reason. Most of the prestige detailers use this stuff

My routine once a month is use laundry liquid as a degreaser, then Mecguiars paint cleaner, mecguiars polish and finally mecguiars yellow wax. then every fortnight i just use mecguiars soft wash. You can get all these from your local repco dealer for ~$30 each bottle

You put laundry liquid on your paint?

Also, polishing every month destroys any wax left over from the previous month. Almost makes the wax coating irrelevant. I suggest polishing every 6 months and layer up the wax with your monthly detail.

Also, that meguiars stuff is very expensive. There are better and cheaper products out there if you are keen to experiment

Is that Nufinish stuff any good?

I haven't read any critical reviews of Nufinish, but I'm sure you could do a lot better.

Collinite waxes have a good reputation for being long lasting. I've recently given their Marque D’Elegance 915 wax a go and am reasonably happy with it. The Liquid Insulator Wax is half the price but is supposed to be quite decent too.

Thank you all for the replies.
I have some leg work to do, to see what is available. Will post results soon.
Trouble with rural life, while it is the best lifestyle in the world some things are hard to come by. Will have to wait till go to Canberra.

There's a couple of decent off-the-shelf brands you can buy (Meguiars and Autoglym imo) but the best stuff is only really available online. www.waxit.com.au and www.carcareproducts.com.au . They're based in Melbourne and Sydney respectively, so you'll need to get them delivered.

Yep, it serves to remove all layers of everything but the paint, so that i can proceed to clean and protect it from there. its what a few of the guys at work suggested so i thought id give it a try, im happy with the results so far

Sorry but laundry liquid may well have caustic properties especially in undiluted form. It may or may not wreck the clear coat

Nu Finish is very popular on UK and USA car websites.

Australia seems to favour more expensive on line stuff instead
