Hey All, I just got my KJ2 GTV serviced and had new timing belt done. Also had to get the manifold gasket changed as it was leaking a bit of oil in the sparkplug area. Since then it has been consuming alot more petrol than before and the car jerks at idling and alot more when slowly reversing. It only does the jerks when its at a good regular temperature. Its very smooth when its cold. The car has done only 100,000 ks and everything is in excellent condition. Need your opinions on what could be wrong.
Cheers!

I believe the O2 sensors have been the culprit of higher than usual fuel consumption on a lot of members cars.. mine included.

Is it a rough idle or is it running rough as you drive..?

I'd take it back to whoever serviced it as they may have incorrectly timed the timing belt or left a vacuum hose off some where. The poor running will result in the higher fuel consumption. You say that oil was leaking into the sparkplug area - this can cause the plug leads to degrade which can then cause a misfire. Good Luck.

Thanks guys for your replies. The guys who serviced the car reckon that the ignition leads and distributor need to be changed as the car still has the stuff that came factory fitted. However it didnt have any such issue until the timing belt work was done. All the vaccum hoses seem to be fine. Idle is smooth but it randomly jerks like a misfire (does more when i put it in reverse). Besides, it only does it when it has reached its maximum running temperature. The mechanic says that these cars don't require any timing or idle adjustment as its all controlled by the computer. He seems confident that the jerks are due to an electrical issue and that I must change the ignition leads and the distributor.

So you have swapped distributer cap and plug leads?....maybe swap whole distributer with ignition module.

Have you looked at your engine mounts..?

They cause a rough idle..

By chance was the battery disconnected and the select S or W iam pretty sure that can make a difference to what the onboard computer read out will be.... could be wrong though
