Hey people, have been doing some work to my old beastie and thought I'd share with you all the pics we have taken at the mid to nearly there point.
There are two internal shots of the front and one rear, there is an engine bay shot, and a whole car shot lol .
Have decided to invest in new audio equipment next, not sure whats out there these days, need something easy to use and a respectable price. :doubt:
Any ideas and comments about the car are appreciated. But keep em nice ppl!!!!

Nice :) i'm trippin with the air cleaner tho, does that make it any better? i've been lookin at my air duct thingy and it kinda points to nothing :doubt:

And how do the extractors go on your tp? Looking cool

Thanks, we removed all the air cleaner housing and gutted an old pod, the replaced the guts with the foam, now we get an extra 50 k's per tank. takes a bit of mucking around to mount the pod again, it used to rattle loose because you loose some anchor points when you take off the plastic, but we soon found another place to anchor it. It actually sounds good too, you can hear it sucking in the air, quite sweet! :)
I havent bought a newe air cleaner for about 3 years now, just take the pod off and give it a good clean.... saves 30 bucks at service time too!!
The extractors are great, the fuel economy didnt improve dramatically, but it does have more stick off the start line and on the highway she just hums.

question, why are the speakers in your front door so far back? the sound would be awful, hittin your ass and then doing a ping pong against the door, if your gonna upgrade your stereo get some new door panels and put your speakers at the front under the window winders so its got the speakers have the footwell to blast into.

Itsubish
06-08-2004, 05:53 PM
answer to your question is that the sound quality wasnt affected and they dont get kicked and knocked around where they are. Simple. :)

hmm how can you compare though, ive got 6.5" splits in the front and they dont get abused that much.

Well all in all this is how i see it , they are only speakers, they sit well and sound fine where they are. A non- event really.

wen is the rocker cover getting done red

it's really easy. u can do it in a day, i did mine black. nice red block aswell... i was gunna do mine black but i just wanted the engine back in the car to get it running again!

that steering wheel... how much and where from if u don't mind me asking? i need another one badly, sick of the stock crappy brown one.

very nice seat covers. even though i don't usually like the sheep skin fluffy stuff im sure it is very comfortable! ill just stick with my superdodge seat covers

last thing from me... all u need now is to get it lowered :D ... lows at the front. i got a quote... king springs through supercheap are $140 im pretty sure. (my mate works there so he got me a quote, no discount though  ) all in all, very nice car

After much deliberations.....we havent actually decided whether to have the rocker cover polished or to paint it, I am leaning more to polished but huby leans more to red..... so discussions are being held  I intend to win
We are also saving for the rest of the mods, the springs and spoiler will be from top gear, we are also going for a 2 to 2 1/2 in exhaust, not sure yet, and the windows will be retinted.
Then i will be happy. So as progress goes things are stunted at the moment for lack of available funds, but all is not lost!!! The modifications will go on :bowrofl:

Oh yes and I got my steering wheel from Cheapa Auto on Ingham road for $180. and the boss kit was $70 to $90 cant quite remember.

I love my sheepies, they cost me 200, but I was actually chasing the really furry ones but couldnt get them in black, will wait til the seatcover man comes back to town me thinks.

Thanks heaps for the compliment, for a while there I thought I maybe I shouldnt have bothered!!!! lol

hehe you inspired me to try making an open air filter type layout with mine! off i went and ripped out the duct etc and then searched through the shed for some sort of metal brackets to help hold the air filter up, and then some other rubber bits n pieces to hold the air filter in. voila! not sure of ne gains, but looks better me thinks! Oh i took the noise reduction thing out from the intake after the air flow sensor, no worries yet.

Next i've gotta find some sort of vent, i'm not a big fan of scoops, im tryin to find something smallish but does a little.

That is one hell of a sick TP mate:

Interior: Seat covers are nice, i personally like my straight black ones though, i want a steering wheel just like that! but with blue instead of red.

Engine: Hehe, i like the way its been painted, i couldnt do that until i clean mine, and im seriously putting that off :doubt: What extractors do you have there? i wouldnt mind a set but i dont know how they will go with my auto...

Overall: A very clean car, perfect example of a nice first gen, keep up the good work :D

hey itsubish i saw you 2day wen i was coming home from uni. u were parked outside cranbrook school. i was in my parents car since mine is off the road for awhile  ... i wound down the window to c wat ur car sounded like but u didnt give it any stick through the roundabout  u were right behind me, i slowed right down at the roundabout haha. ohwell, ill c u around another time wen i get my car back on the road. you will know its me then... you'll hear my secondarys open up

did u notice if there were any spoilers to suit the 1st gen sedan? aka mine :D i wouldnt mind getting something small and stock looking. i think it just adds abit of character to the car.

Those small spoilers you talked about are as rare as rocking horse sh**, we cant find one. If you manage to get hold of one let me know coz the one we've seen is big and expensive.... if i can get a small one i will.... all about the $$$$$$$

Aussie fella: the extractors are pacemakers.

I liked the scoop on the FARST pic, very nice indeedy, could be wanting me one of those too yet. lol

10-08-2004, 08:04 PM
He he he he again I must say thankyou!!!!!!

Its good to have a car that ppl actually comment on, in a positive way that is :) Most of the magna wagons round here are treated poorly and all look so crappy, so we really stand out, which I like !!!!

Just wish there were more northerners on this site, coz I wouldnt mind meeting some more ppl with nice magnas. :D :D

One thing I have noticed (In my opinion anyway) that all Generations of Magna wagons look good (TL is debatable, but the back is still nice), where as Falcons have always looked ****, Commodores didn't look to bad VN+ and VT+ are nice, camrys are just plan wrong.

Go the Magna's

HA HA HA I just read those last few posts and its good to see most ppl actually read them. :bowrofl:

I must agree that the magna wagons are a nice car, but its such a shame to see so many ppl running them into the ground. And yes camry's are wrong, lol.

Telemenohpee: how has your air cleaner gone so far? No probs?

Brendan, make sure next time that its me in the car and let me know that ur there and I give you some thing to listen to  Specially if Im not in a school zone..... because we all know that would be wrong !!!! lol

About the air filter mods... did it effect the computer at all???

Telemenohpee
11-08-2004, 08:02 PM
nope thats just mine its faulty, i dont see that it should change much its just removing the housing and air duct and noise reducing element. sensors still there and not being altered, filter still in same position. I guess only time will tell, easy enough to put back together anyway if its not workin.

Does yours make the "sucking" sound?

Does yours make the "sucking" sound?

aka induction :D

Telemenohpee
11-08-2004, 08:19 PM
nup, i think only a pod (or carby like tm-se's) does that. i think itsubish has a pod too, thats why it makes a sucking sound. Pity, induction noise is hella cool

Itsubish
12-08-2004, 06:19 AM
My air filter is just a normal filter with the guts changed to filter foam. But we didnt take out the noise reduction element but we do get the suck sound.

A quicker alternative is also to just take the plastic off and leave the housing there, it will still give you a sucking sound, not as prominent. Still gives you better fuel eco. We run it that way for a while, then hubby created his own version and viola, there ya go!!!!

So long as you dont remove the air flow sensors, there should be no effect to the ecu. Just remember to wrap plastic around it when u clean ur engine. :D

Any one know how much an accelerator cable is??? second hand or new, ours is looking worse for wear.

Telemenohpee
12-08-2004, 09:13 AM
oh ok, mines the unifilter which seems to be all foamy. i say give it a go like itsubish and see if you end up with the sound your after :)

edit: my accelerator cable is also wearing out, still worx so that'll do for now :P

My cable looks real crappy and I ve been wanting a new one for a while, will have to hunt around the wreckers for one that is in better nick than mine i spose.

The beauty of such a basic mod to the air filter is that if you dont really like it ya just put all the plastic back on and no one is the wiser! :)

$81 trade here in Melbounre. I managed to scrounge a 3000km old one from the wreckers...
