Hey again guys.
Just got my bumper resprayed yesterday, finally looking shmick again!
Anyway for some time my battery has been on its way out, anyhow i went to pick up the car yesterday, had a bit of trouble starting but after a good amount of cranks, she finally burst into life!
But i noticed the check engine light was on, and the car was in some sort of safe mode where as it was like hitting the limiter at 3000rpm and you couldn't rev beyond that point.
I was thinking it may have come up due to the battery being dangerously flat, so when i got home i topped up the cells and chucked it on the charger. Today connected it all back up, went to start, took a fair bit of cranking (could have been not much petrol in the tank also, light is on :\ , but finally got going. But the CEL light is still on?!?! And the radio display seems different ?! Any ideas as to why??? Im rattled.

Any car with a CANbus type management system is heavily affected by low or high voltage supply and will log error codes and thus bring up the CEL light on the dash. Someone with the appropriate scantool can check these codes for you to see if it was logged due to a voltage error or something more serious.

Yeh thats what i was thinking, or maybe a crank angle sensor fault or something... It seems to have disappeared for now, well see how it holds up. Might have just been because of the battery. Even after a charge it feels a bit shitty still, might go buy another now lol.

It's happened to me a couple of times.
A voltage spike (rather than a dud battery), CEL for 'crank angle sensor malfunction', and it goes into limp home mode.
The 380 ECU is very sensitive to sudden voltage changes or low voltage, as Nemesis says.
Def recommend you get a new battery, and make sure it's one with 600 CCA or better. The 380 ECU doesn't like 'standard' batteries and is much happier with a higher powered battery.

Thanks for the replies both of you two! Sounds exactly right mate. Going to go and have a look now :) thanks again.
Might get myself an obd scanner for shits and giggles anyways.

Absolutely correct

For God's sake go and get another battery, don't stuff around. The battery runs your throttle, everything. At any time the ECU might just decide the battery isn't good enough and just not start.

As above and remember the throttle will shut down at a certain point
I also have a mutt3 so can do the proper scan for you if needed

Yeah i will buy a new battery, I just charged it to see if the cel would go off, or if i had another problem at hand as well. Drove it to work and noticed that the cel had disappeared when i went to start it.
Can anyone recommend a decent 600 + cca battery at a reasonable price?
Thanks madmagna, but should be fine, ill be purchasing one of the net, and I just found out a mate has one that ill try pinch this weekend. haha
Thanks guys.
