Hi everyone, very new here. Looking at buying a 1996 KS XI (?) Verada 3.0 V6, done about 250 000k, steering componentry seems in good order, but the gearbox is a little bit delayed going into drive and reverse. Nothing major, but it's obviously tired. Also the motor has decent getup, but there is a pinging sound. Could this be from poor fuel like prev owner using E85 or 91, poor servicing, or something worse? Any common problems with these cars? It's cheap and I only need a car to run to the coast a day per week in but am I wasting my time? Any helpASAP will be greatly appreciated,

JIMMY

The car has alot of kms on it and engine noise wouldn't be uncommon, If you do buy it i wouldn't give them much just due to the fact of how old it is. 3.0L don't go for much.

Thanks for that mate. You reckon a service and few tanks of 98 and a throttle body/maf clean might help it out?

It's hard to say, obviosuly it won't do any harm but i'm no mechanic, the noise could be anything. Usually intake cleans help fuel econ but don't contribute to noise.

Only thing I can add is that the car (if it's the one at Carsales) doesn't have a RWC, so unless you have a mate in the game, it may cost a few dollars to fix what they find on inspection. You can find cars with RWC for just a bit more.

Yes MILO that's it, good pickup. have been doing my research today and I'm now weaning off the idea of it. Found another that looks quite ok. Whilst I'm relatively decent as a home mechanic, I've never worked with these engines before, I drive a Holden Berlina (which might be blasphemous on this forum haha). Apparently they are very reliable and well made and it should be a great car for my girlfriend. If anyone has any tips or Verada inside info for me that'd be awesome, if not cheers for all the help.

Lol, nice KS...

Exactly why I put up the Carsales ad.... :D

Pretzil, just so you know, thats actually not a KS but a KE. They changed from KS to KE in 1996.
