View Full Version : Soggy Brakes?

Hi there, for some time i've noticed my brakes aren't feeling as sharp as they once were..
They feel kind of soggy, and dont appear to be grabbing hard unless the pedal is pushed a good distance.

They were once sensitive as, and as stupid as it sounds, now it just feels as if you have just washed the car and the brakes are wet constantly. Mushy like.

The front pads were low so i've upgraded to a Bendix set a few months ago, but its still shitty..

Can the pedal be adjusted or anything, as it seems to be grabbing late in pedal travel. Or is it something more serious causing it such as the master cylinder, etc?

Sorry for the crappy explanation. Hard to describe lol :\

Thanks.
Anthony.

Could obviously be a bit of air in the lines.

Bleed the brakes and see if that fixes it.

Change of brake fluid.

Change brake fluid, bleed air out, take wheels off and check pad wear and tightness of all bolts.
You could also take the pads out and check for glazing.

Will definitely have a go at this on the weekend. I also noticed when changing the pads, that one of the front pads, cant exactly remember which side it was, but it was at least 3mm lower than the other side? I was a bit dazed at this, but thought it may be traction control applying the brakes to one wheel only, causing this?

Sticky calipers will result in the uneven wear and give the pistons a clean and grease.

I find sometimes forcing the ABS to work - firm braking on dirt or grass to save the tyres - improves pedal feel

Yeah i've tried giving the abs a workout but nothing. Ill have a look tomorrow at the brakes! sounds like a busy weekend ahead. Will get back to you. Stay tuned.

Update: Checked the pads for even wear and no glazing, All good. All bolts are tight.
Took it for some further abs tests, seemed to work okay. Got a slight lockup on one time though.
