Last night I parked my car and when I came back a few minutes later it would not start.
It would crank fine but would not fire, after a while I could smell fuel.

I came back to it this morning and after a fair bit of cranking it finally fired, had to rev it a bit to keep it going and there was a bit of exhaust smoke. Once I stopped revving it, it idled quite high, about 1800 before settling down to 1500.

Driving home it seemed fairly okay, until I stopped at a roundabout, when I went to drive out it almost died before I put my foot to the floor to get it to go. Drove the rest of the way home (avoiding stopping) fairly okay.

When I pulled up at home and put it in park it idled high again. Stopped it, and then tried it again for a bit but it wouldn't start.

Help, Suggestions Please?

Thanks

(PS, the problem started during some heavy rain [as these problems usually do] could moisture somewhere be a cause?)

2 tps has shat itself ( high idle)
3 ecu

Water in the dizzy same problem with my car, keep a heavy duty plastic bag in the car if you see heavy rain put the bag over the dizzy and cable tie into place :D

I got to look for a solution but does the job for now.

Park the car leave it for a while she will be good to go again. Or grab can of CRC contact cleaner or anything that replies moister and clean the dizzy cap :)

Thanks sparky that sounds pretty likely, when you say to clean the dizzy cap do you mean to pull it apart and spray or just give it a spray over in place?

Thanks

You will need to pull the cap off and spray inside, I never done it before. As I just let the car dry out under the hot sun for a while :)

Update:
Starting easier now, but after it does it stutters and the exhaust blows quite a bit of white smoke

Hope you dont have blown Head Gasket or Head prob Is it white smoke or lots of steam is radiator going down. Mine was hard to start when had faulty head. I think from memory no 3 spark plug used to rust. Hopefully Not your case.I also remember air bubbles in radiator with cap off while running.

Got it out to the mechanics, no head gasket problems apparently, problem was that it was injecting lpg and petrol at the same time and flooding it (Sorry, probably should have mentioned the lpg but since the problem was on petrol I didn't bother).

The problem is that the LPG mechanic has gone on holidays, probably because all his jobs cancelled when the LPG price jumped by 50% from 60c/L to 90c/L (Seriously, wtf)
On the bright side, when I get the car back, the appreciation on the tank of LPG should be enough to pay for the repairs.

Maybe turn LPG tap off on tank and switch to petrol till LPG Mechanic gets back prob safer . You dont want it to backfire and blow air box and melt mesh in air meter as mine burnt filter even. I put bath plug in top of air box on chain so if backfired would blow out plug and less damage mine only did this when cold i think mine cheap crappy install and system cheapest. I learnt get what u pay for. This may have been part of my prob as petrol all ways seemed to go down when not using it. Had enough bought 380 eventually LPG
