best if you use jumper leads with inbuilt spike protection , adds an extra margin of protection for your ECU.

And make sure not to do +ve to +ve and -ve to -ve. Make sure it is +ve from your car to +ve of your wife's and -ve from your car to the engine block on your wife's. Have your car running and give it a rev as your wife tries to start her car.
