Hey all, so the verada has been sitting for about 4-5 months, not started (yeah yeah slap on the wrist). Before then it sat for about 2 months without being started, so it was flat, and had to have the RAC do a check, held the idle up for 10mins etc. At that stage the battery was deemed to be in good condition, and he said the alternator might be stuffed. Managed to drive the car that night fine after holding the idle up.

So jump forward to now, 4-5months later. Jump started the car, then held the idle up past 2k rpm for 10mins, then above 3k rpm for 10secs, then let it drop and it stalled out. Radio wouldnt work while it was in idle, but a/c and lights would.

So my question is basically is it the alternator thats finally had it, or could it be both the battery and alternator? Also how hard is it to fit the alternator? have noticed a few on Ebay for a decent price.

Cheers!

If a battery keeps getting flat it can damage it so it wont hold charge like it did before.

As above - your battery is probably stuffed from sitting discharged for a number of months. I'd buy a new battery and instal it, then start the car and measure the alternator voltage at the battery...should be above 14Vdc depending on whether the new battery is fully charged. If it's erratic or below 13Vdc I'd replace the alternator. This presumes that battery leads are in good condition.

It will be battery, you can leav them dead for two long or you kill them. It's better to take it out and get someone to charge it for you if you don't have a trickle charger.
