Ok,
I want to redo some of the front console with missile switches and a voltmeter, so far i know how to do all this and how to wire it, except for one thing.

I have been intending to get neons for the TN for a few weeks now, and i need a bit of a rundown on how to wire it up, i know it needs to get power off the cigarette lighter (im taking the cig lighter and ash tray out and putting my new panel there) but neons have a 12 volt transformer and a fuse to install, so can someone who has done it before give me a bit of a rundown on where to wire everything? Diagrams would be most beneficial.

Thanks in advance,
AussieFella

well depending on how many neons u have you should realy use a relay but if youve only got one or 2 you should be able to get away with it, as for the wiring - insted of using the cig ligher wire use the acc wire that runs to your headunit then split that in to the 2 + neon wires, then get the 2 - wires and ground it somewhere then put a switch in the line somewhere, as for the fuse and transformer, they should either be in the neon tube on on a little black box, but if you want to use another fuse for it jusr use a normal car fuse, it shouldnt that hard its simple realy

Seriously mad_lante, that helped very little, it helps me now that i know i dont have to move the cig lighter, but how do i know which wire is the acc wire?

Update: There is no real panel where the cig lighter is, so i decided to rip that bin thingy out from under the stereo there, makes everything a little bit more acccible and its about the right size...

to find the acc wire or any other u are after for that matter...

using a multimeter, probe each wire. wen u turn the key to ACC u should get 12 volts through that wire. if 12 volts aren't coming through, it's obviously not the ACC wire.

probe the wires before and after u turn the key to each slot. (ie, ACC, ON). so, if u probe a wire and there is nothing then u turn the key to ACC and probe the SAME wire and get 12 volts... guess wat wire u found? the ACC wire :D... getting something sharp... perhaps a scalpal if u have one and peel the insulation away from the wire (in a small area!) there u have ur bare wire to wire ur neons too. i guess u should put a small length of wire onto the bare ACC wire first, then wire that to one end of the fuse, then get another length of wire to ur neons etc... same for the switch. then ground the neons ground wire somewhere on the chassis. i would recommend under the handbrake (it's held on by 2 bolts if i remember correctly)... though it depends how car forward the neons are going. i spose u could always wire it up to the constant power aswell since u are putting in a switch. that way, u can turn the neons on weneva u want, even if u don't have ur keys in the car with u. carshow material :D

so are u wanting to have the neons up around the dash area? i've wanted to put neons down under the seats facing the pedals wired into the door lights. so wen the doors were open, the neons were on. would b cool. just wondering cause u can always attack the wires leading to the ignition.

(Q: do u have the big brick around ur steering wheel or do u have the indicator arms/washer arms?) it's not too hard to get to the wires behind the dash around the steering wheel if u have the brick (dunno wat else to call it lol)... probe the ACC wire there then do the same wiring setup.... then just run a longer cord under the drivers side dash and around to under the cd player (where ur neons will be). but yeah... that's if u didn't want to take ur centre console apart to get the cd player out to probe the wires behind that. it's up to u...

hope that helps :D

AussieFella,

It's up to you where and how you want to set up your neon wiring... TM-SE-RED has a great explanation as to hooking it up to the ACC.

As for me, all I did for my set up was use the cigarette lighter wire and split it up in to 9 separate power sources... plenty of power...

Ahhh! you pulled it out just for me :D It looks awful damn complicated :S
