Hi guys,

I have one small noise that I am wondering about... in case anyone has heard it before.

It's basically a small grunt "uhhh" that happens, in my estimation, when the transmission goes from 1st to 2nd after just shifting into Drive after just turning on the car, say when I leave a parking space after shopping or something.

Has anyone heard this or anything similar? It happens 100% of the time I would say....

Thanks!

does it only do it once when you first start the car?

if so, its probably the abs running diagnostics

If what you're hearing is what I think you are, I get the same thing happening too.
I get it the first time I use the car for the day, so when the engine is dead cold, but after it happens once it doesnt happen again.

It sounds like its resonating somewhere, kinda making that 'urhhh' sound, but it only lasts a second.
Best I can tell, it comes from the engine bay, mid to passenger side.
I never paid to much attention to it, just assumed it was the engine warming up.

I am working on figuring out if it's two separate noises or just one... will let you know soon.

i am 99.999% sure that the noise you are hearing is the abs unit. nothing wrong with it. (having said that, just check your brake fluid lol )

This is from a Bosch bulletin (Magna has Bosch):
The ABS ECU has a self−diagnostic system which monitors the input
and output circuits. The ABS ECU operates the solenoid valves and the
pump motor in sequence in order to check each respective electrical
system. This function operates only once each time the ignition switch
is turned ON. On some earlier models it operates when the vehicle is
traveling at a speed greater than 4 mph with the stop light (brake
light) switch OFF. During this check the operation of the actuator can
be heard, however this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.
