(Disclaimer: I did search, but it doesn't mean my particular search terms actually found anything. Plenty of guides for electric antennas, not so much on the manual for example.)

Well it had to happen eventually. Someone snapped off my antenna.

It's a manual antenna, so i'm curious what needs to be done to replace it. Does the entire unit including the cable back to the dash need to be replaced, can it be replaced separately of the cable or can just the mast be replaced on a manual unit?

Secondly, the splash guard under the front bumper has deformed. It's split free of the bolts and is now hanging down, but is also visibly warped. Even with the guard held in place, it sits lower than it should. Is it wise to run without this (even for a while) or should I be sourcing an immediate replacement?

Cheers.

Aeropro make a replacement. Cable plugs into the aerial, it is not a part of the aerial, so it's not a problem. The new one includes a little spanner to undo the nut.

Use some large washers under the bolts to reinforce the splash guard. It's there to stop water splashing into the engine bay, hence the name. lol
It protects the alternator and aircon compressor from an early death, so unless you live in the middle of the Kalahari desert, it's probably a good idea to keep it.

If you replace a Manual Antenna to Electric one you need to provide Constant 12v power + 12v Trigger and - Ground, the Coax Antenna cable will just plug in

To replace with another standard one just swap it over..

For the splash gaurd, Just use a couple of cable ties, it'll un-warp in time. I have had mine off for the last 6 month and has not given me any issues, even with all the rain n.s.w. has been getting. But it's advisable to leave attached.

. . . . . until you hear a "squeek squeek" from rusty alternator or air con compressor bearings. lol

Not a problem, Aerpro replacement it is. :)

As for the splash guard, i'd intended to replace it. Even once it's held back up into place, one portion of it hangs fairly low, giving me the impression that the guard itself is bent downward. Cable ties had little effect, within 24 hours they had pulled through the guard and it was once again dragging on the ground.

Anyway, I can see where it would be critical, considering the alternator was relocated to the front of the motor in comparison with the Second Gen V6 (which just lacked a splash guard entirely).

I had a rear wheel drive a while ago, and like you I thought the splash guard was not needed. The first time it rained, it went through a few puddles. Soon after the starter motor failed. It turned out to be full of wet mud. But you know better, so feel free to remove any splash guards you find under your car and let us know how you get on.

order a new one through mitsubishi. they are black plastic and cost about $30. It is exactly the same part as on my TJ series 2. Or you may strike it lucky at a wreckers.

May replace it with an electric unit as some point, but can't really be stuffed at the moment, but i'll check out the prices and difficulty of installation. May end up taking this route. It doesn't do much anyway, it's only being replaced so the rest of the car looks complete. lol
