After installing my splits i have come accross a rather interesting problem...

I notice my tweeters seem to have a high pitched engine noise in them and gets louder the more load i give my engine. In otherwords, when i boot it, its screams.

Im guessing it could be caused by ignition or the altenator??? I've heard of this problem before but no idea how to fix it.

Cheers fella's

this problem is alternator interference - it comes from running your power cables near your speaker cables

the best way to do it is if u have to run power cables near speaker cables tehn cross them over - dont run them parallel

How did you wire the amps and the tweeters in the car?

The best options in the Magna are to run all power cables down the RHS of the car and all RCA's and speakers cables down the left side (even the RHS front...then run it up under the dash). This should produce no engine noise at all. What is the voltage output of your RCA's? Lower voltage RCA levels can be more prone to interference.

If all else fails, you can wire in noise filters on your H/U and amps, and failing that use a Isolation Transformer on the RCA's to the amp (connected at the amp, not at the H/U). The problem with using noise filter is you may lose some sound quality (and they can cause Voltage drops to the amps in some cases).

Hope this helps....

I think the HU is a 2v output. Not much. It could be due to the wires in the boot being all over the place, i will have a fiddle tommorow. The interferance is only comming from the tweeters and nothing else.

Hey dude...

Engine noise interference is usually up around the 5000-10000Hz frequency range (that's why you'll be noticing it more with your new Pioneer spits!!!).

Do you notice any interference from the tweeters in the rear 6x9's? Where did you mount the tweeter crossovers in the boot (near power cables, etc)? How far away is your power cable from the H/U?

The crossovers are mounted in the boot within close proximity to the power cables which might have alot to do with it.

The powercable isn't anywhere near the headunit however the rca's run next to (parrallel with) the power cables to the boot so this might also be affecting the problem. I will look into it further tommorow and report my findings.

I mounted my tweater on top of the dash where the round voids are.

Will let you know how i go.

Yeah, that'll most likely be causing it. If possible, try running them up the other side of the car. Also, try keep your speaker wires away from the power cable as well.

I mounted my tweeters (JBL's) in the same place. I also had the plastic mounting for the tweeters died grey to match the dash so it doesn't look too aftermarket :)

Good luck!

Youre system isnt properly ground.

Or you may have a ground loop.. Get the multimetre out and make sure youre earthed properly.

cheap rca's?
power wire shouldrun down the same side as the battery and rca on opposite side

no the RCA's are good quality and its definatly grouded properly.

Not always!

It's best to run the RCA's and speaker wires on the side which has the least power cables on it (so they're less prone to interference), which on the Magna is on the LHS (the same side as the battery). You're better off running the power cables down the RHS of the car.

The power cable is running down the LHS so i might try rewiring the RCA's and speaker cabling to the right hand side and see how we go from there...
