G'day people. I am new to this forum, but have been on another mitsubishi one previously. I have a question, does anybody have any thoughts on an odometer that has gained 65000 km overnight? Thanks.

You left the car unlocked and a passer by swapped clusters?

Your cluster is defective?

Either way, put the question to your local friendly Mitsu Service Centre.

I'd say you have the Trip meter mixed up with your odometer....

welcome to the club
your car been a 380 i have no idea
just a welcome and what part off vic are you in

G'day all, i am from the Latrobe Valley, the car in question is a series 2 steel blue sx, auto and on gas. Bought the car at 102000 km and it had done another 93000 km in 2.5 years. We have had all the usual things go wrong, r/r window reg, indicator stalk playing funny buggers with the lights, rattle in the interior rear view mirror, thermostat, replaced the drivers seat plastic mould and timing belt tensioner chattering when cold. Now this. On the upside I don't think anybody can beat the economy that i have gotten with this last tank of LPG, 65500 km all from a measly 61 litres. The ODOMETER now states 260363 km from 195000 km.

It's a sprint gas system. It's a 70 litre tank and goes across the the back of the back seat. I believe the donut tanks that take the place of the spare are smaller. Mine takes between 58 and 63 litres to fill, normally about 61 litres.

Mine is a 60 l Manchester tank with the Factory approved SVI system installed by IMPCO

Lift the front wheels, drop it in reverse and put a brick on the accelerator lol

Have you removed the cluster at all?

No cluster removal, no anything. Maybe it's an MMA thing so the warranty runs out quicker. Maybe not.

Most likely a faulty cluster at a guess, I would check with a dealer howver I have not to date heard of this issue occuring. Have had a few where either temp or fuel guage stops working but that is about it.

I agree that there is a problem somewhere but what an odd problem, I would expect the odometer to not work at all as not to go forward or the numbers to disappear but to up on it's own by 65000 km while continuing to work, that's weird. Trip a & b were not affected either.

If the car is still under warranty, I would go see the Mitsu dealer ASAP. After all, it may do it again and again. If you try to sell it, the car will be worthless with a huge readout. If no warranty, I'm sure Mal has a working cluster at about the 195,000 km mark. (Hopefully)

EDIT: most digital cluster have an EPROM chip which retains the odo reading. Yours may have failed. If so, the problem will just get worse, with numbers changing randomly.

Behind the back seat. There are two types of tanks available for the 380, the normal tank (eg. behind the back seat) and a donut tank that sits in the spare wheel well. Apologies if i didn't make myself clear.

No warranty at 195000 km, and then a dealership could say the 260000km displayed are genuine. I'm wondering if it has had some sort of power surge or a symptom of an ageing or failing battery as its still the original battery. Alternator perhaps. I'll be keeping watch for anything else happening.
