Hey guys,

In the mountain of things I want to do to my car, one of the ones I'd like to try to sort out this month is the flaky black trim. For instance, the black moulding around the rear windscreen appears to be peeling, with some of it quite flaky and course and some of it still nice and smooth. I'll try and get a picture to better illustrate this, but what is the best course of action for restoring the black rubber parts of the trim? Another one I've noticed is the rubber moulding just near the tweeter pods has gone an odd milky finish.

This is minor stuff I know but there you have it. Has anyone else's cars done this and what did you do about it if so? :P

I've been recommended to use Plasticare Trim Dye (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Plasticare-Trim-Dye-BLACK-Plastic-Rubber-Bumper-Paint-/251009959785?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Car_Care_Cleani ng&hash=item3a715c0769) on the rear window. I don't know of anyone who has tried it on a Magna though. I've also tossed up painting it with modelling paint.

Unfortunately because the trim has actually flaked off, regular trim detailer doesn't cut it.

Oh dear it looks as if you have one of the TJ's that had the coated glass trim.

I had this problem yonks ago, had the trim replaced with a fully self coloured trim under warranty.

Obviously this means that one fix is to source a new trim and replace. Probably means that the screen has to come out and be glued back in - i.e. very expensive!!

Yeah this is my concern as well, I think it will need to be painted or something like that.

Errgh it's not that major. If this ends up being the only solution I'll be leaving it alone. I'm not spending big for this :P

I have this same problem. I just got a black permanent marker and coloured in where it had flaked away so that it matched the bits that hadn't flaked. Can hardly notice it now.

Have you tried using an auto cleaning product and / or rubber or plastics restoration product? I'd give this a go first.
