I just bought a 98 magna, love the car but can't stand the look of the mirrors.
They just don't seem to match the car.... does anyone feel the same way?

I think they are too big. My wifes Commodore has sleek "lil plastic mirrors, I'm jealous.

I love em. They're different and much nicer than anything else locally produced.

Your car, your choice.
Take them off, throw them away.
Graft something else on.

I have to agree that I'm not a massive fan of the magna mirrors. Pretty boring looking. Like a lot of things in life - functional but ugly!
I really liked the mirrors on my old Vectra. While the car was quite bland, the mirrors look like they were moulded by the wind. They looked like this

A bit of streamlining would make them look better. Might stop the wind noise too!
How about some tiny rear vision cameras, in streamlined pods - with the display integrated into, or next to the rear view mirror?
Sparky could make some up, I'm sure!

i reckon the mirrors look good when on acceleration the magna fly past you as you are standing on the nature strip watching

I'm with some of the others, I actually like them.. I have a VE commodore also and think the mirrors on it are marginally better looking but I get a better view from the Magna mirrors

Commodore mirrors = look better, crap vision. Magna mirrors = not pretty, excellent vision.
although, they do kinda remind me of a couple other cars

Yeah it always bothered me a little that they were on the doors and kinda stick out, but they're not toooo bad. And visibility is fantastic.

I like them for the excellent rear vision and they suit the car. I remember reading in the TE brochure that they were designed to reduce wind noise / resistance by letting it flow past the A-pillar unobstructed. The 380 mirrors are good as well.

They are "supercar inspired" being attached to the door, rather than to the A pillar. I think it is effective when it comes to aesthetics, vision, safety and durability.

Agreed, but they do a great job of moving water off the windows, so you can see the mirror when its dumping rain. They are also far out enough not to obstruct your vision, its not really a blind spot, unlike the 380...

To give an indication of how important they are to aerodynamics, have one that is not quite perfectly glued together and cop a permanent whistle from it!!!!!!

IF you want good mirrors then you can't go past the NM Pajero one's. They were flippen massive! It was almost half the height of the side screens! But yes ugly as dogs balls.
These were designed to be aerodynamic and is a style used by many sports cars (aka flag shaped mirror) and nowadays by some SUVs.

As above, drag/aerodynamics was the main reason for the flag mirrors.
In detail, the drag with the 3rd gen mirrors was reduced by .01 with the mirrors, a substantial decrease.
Also, the TE had a 0.28 Cd factor, in 1996!! A VE Commodore is lucky to be 0.33~0.34.
Personally, I like them. Remember there are no frames around the doors, so just think how fugly the thing would have been if you had Bommadore-style of mirror on the frameless Magna door.

Yeah, they mightn't be the prettiest mirrors in the world, but at least the vision is good compared to a lot of other cars out there!

I like the mirrors alot, they match the look of the car imo and they are aerodynamic.
Coulour coded mirrors in the 3rd gens make a big difference in aesthetics. I had a silver tj magna with black mirrors and I have to say that the colour coded ones on my verada (same colour as my old tj) look much nicer. Personaly I like the shape and style of these side view mirrors. yes they are large and bold looking, but I think they suit the car.

match the look of the car but all seem to make wierd noises at certain speeds.

Love the look of them on my TF (although really need to color code them). Only gripe I've got with them is the ridiculous whistle I get whenever I wind down 1 or both of the front windows. Took me forever to figure out what it was, put my hand between the mirror and pillar, and away goes the whistle.

I have a BF Falcon now, and the first thing i noticed was how pathetic and useless the side mirrors are compared to my magna ones.
Who cares how they look, at least you can actually see with them.

i think they are awesome!, aerodynamic and they look aggressive from the front of the car
