View Full Version : Water in passenger foot-well

Hey guys,

so with this crazy Sydney rain we've been having lately, my Verada seems to have sprung a leak. I'll try and cut a long story short, and make sense.
A few weeks ago, I removed my front left wheel and splash guards to put my amp power cable through the spare grommet in the passenger left foot-well. Now I don't know if this is completely coincidental, but my leaf guards on the bottom of my windscreen as completely stuffed. They've lifted and warped really bad... But I think it may be leaking from there, because I decided today to pull the carpet up and go for a drive in the rain. As soon as my wipers would swipe down, the water would go down between the windscreen and the leaf guard and then I could see droplets coming into the passenger foot-well. So is there some sort of drain tube or something that connects to under the leaf guards that may have come off? Or maybe the amp cable through the factory grommet might be the cause?

Forgot to mention, its not the heater core. It doesn't smell like coolant and I haven't lost any coolant.

Any idea/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Remove the leaf-guards and clean it all out.

Search, there are a few threads on where to look for leaks, I've put some pics up.
Try a google advanced search limited to the aussiemagna site if the forum search is being a pain.

New leaf guards are about $30 each. Note they have soft seals to the base of the windscreen glass to divert most of any water.

Double check the wire to grommet seal.
I am working on " Who stuffed with it, when was it stuffed with etc. etc"

The windscreen seal is most unlikely to be the cause, 0.01% or less.

If the grommet seal is OK then clean the area around the LH hood hinge and check the sealer in the various joints for signs of cracking.

In my case last year, I took the fender off and eventually found that a piece of heat curing putty by the hood hinge was cracked. Cleaned the area up, resealed and repainted. Is now OK, car was outside the last few days in the Sydney rain without any problems.

Yes there is a drain system from the heater intake plenum.
If you carefully pour water in it comes out under the LHS of the car.

I had this happen after installing an amp in my old TE using that same grommet. The grommit dislogged a month after fitting the amp and water started pouring in. I ended up sealing it in with silicone and the water stopped coming in. My bet is on that grommit.

Well guys I poured water down the left hand side of the windscreen, it just came out the bottom of the car about 5 seconds later leaving no water inside my car (I had the carpet peeled back so I could see). I suspect a dodgy grommet. Thanks for the advice guys!

Got to be a dodgy grommet. First thing to check

It was the grommet! I tried putting water down the leaf guards. About 10 seconds later it came out a tube where my mud flap is. Sealed the grommet up and no more water! Ta guys!

Hate to say I told you so. They are a pain if not sealed properly. Water in the car is such a mess
