Hi all

I have a S11 2003 KJ Verada.

A year ago my driver's side headlight went out, so I picked up a new one and replaced it. It worked well, but recently, it's been going on and off for no reason - something shorting out somewhere.

Finally, it's stopped working all together.

I picked up another new one, but I can't for the life of me get the old one out.

I unscrew the large black cover, and take out the unit that holds the globe. But I can't get the globe to come out of the unit (little black box thing). It looks like there's two "push in" tabs on the sides which seem to want to release it but it doesn't move - it moves about 2mm and stops anyway.

Maybe I've totally screwed up the system and I can't get it out? I don't know :( It's driving me insane!! Any info would be awesome.

Thanks.,

You need to pull hard on the rubber rim to take the seal off the rear of the headlight then the globe will be exposed and you push hard on the metal clip in and release it from its clip and the globe will be loose, ready to fall out.

The globe and the black thing it sits in are already exposed and hanging out :/
I may have put it in the wrong way to start with!

when you unscrew the back of the globe compartment the black plastic cover drops off. Then you disconnect the wires via the plastic clip and you should see a Black ring of rubber with the double prong globe in the centre. then pull on that black rubber and the globe will be revealed. There should be 1 metal clip that needs pushed in and around to release the globe, the globe will then come out. Not sure what you mean so i just recalled the back of a headlight... If your's is different to that i'm really not sure.

Woops, those pictures are massive, sorry.

As you can see, the globe, the black thing it sits in, and the rubber part are all out and in my hand (still connected with wires)

I'm thinking I took it out the total wrong way :/

Sigh. you are meant to disconnect the wires then pull that black bit off. than remove the globe. you just tugged the whole thing. And now the wire that holds the globe tightly in may be damaged...

Good God, you've destroyed it :O

Maybe not. Essentially, you're meant to push the tabs un and pull the black connector off. Then slide the rubber grommit off, then push the release latch and the globe + holder can just slide out. You might need to take some (smaller) shots of inside the rear of the light socket but I'm thinking it may be damaged beyond easy repair. We'll need to see the damage first though.

Looks like you might be in for a trip to the wreckers.

Lesson here: If something doesn't come out easily, there is a reason why :P

Although in all honesty I nearly did the same thing to mine. I yanked at it until the metal latch had losened and the globe moved heaps. then I found the clips. D'oh.
